hello,

i've searched previous topics on this - i appreciate it's been done many times before - but can't find anything definitive!

my placenta was covering the os at 20 weeks. by 32 weeks it had moved to 7mm away, and by 36 weeks - just passed - it had moved to 1.1cm away.

provided i have no problems between now and then, they're planning on scanning again (internally this time) at 38 weeks, before they make a final call. is there really any chance it'll move enough for a natural birth?

how far clear does it need to be? (it's posterior btw).

really just want to prepare myself either way.

many thanks for any thoughts / experience!

I think it's 2cm, I've got the same issue - mine was 16mm away at my last scan and they need to see at least 20mm at the next scan otherwise it'll be a cs for me...

Don't quote me though, I'm only going by memory - not my notes.

Good luck!

Thanks for that - sounds like there's a good chance yours will move far enough away - mine's got a bit further to go... Good luck anyway! x

I'm almost 100 percent sure its 2.5 cm... x
They might let you try for a natural delivery even if its not quite there, but bear in mind it might end up with c-section...

RCoG is a good website if you have any other questions x

If its moved some already there is a good chance of it moving a bit more... How far are you now? x

thanks for that - i hope so - but it seems it's got a long way to travel yet. it was 1.1cm away at 36+2 (that was last week; and it was 0.7cm away at 32+2). they'll do a final scan the week after next, when i'll be 38+2...
credit to the nhs for persevering just in case i guess!
