Pregnancy Massage? Good, Bad or Useless??

Hello Ladies
I am currently 24 weeks along with #4 and my lower back has started to really hurt me. I sit at a desk at work all day, which really doesn't help either. Have any of you had a pregnancy massage? Has it worked? I will be seeing my OB next week to ask if its alright, but I would love to hear any comments, suggestions, stories. There is so much mixed information on the internet, I though I would go straight to the experts... other mums!

I've had massages during both my pregnancies. It's relaxing and feels nice, but in my experience, it doesn't 'cure' a bad lower back.

I saw a 'women's health' physiotherapist during my last pregnancy and she gave me lots of useful advice and some exercises to do which strengthened my lower back and pelvic floor. Helped a lot.

Your midwife should be able to either give you some excercises or refer you to a specialist pysio. Have you got a support belt? They can really help.

My CMU does massage due to the demand I go every 4 weeks and it is a midwife that does them (they charge £5.00 for the oils - best £5.00 i spend every month!!) it is great! Doesnt completly take away the pain but you do feel much better.

This is the first time I have ever had any back pain... preg or not. I will ask my OB if she can give me some lower back exercises that will help. I work out regularily with a trainer, and we have done some exercises as well. Its not a sharp pain, but a dull ache. Makes me too restless to sit during the day, and prevents me from getting any sleep at night. Thanks for your suggestions
