Which 3 wheeler?

We are looking for a good all terrain buggy for our DS due July 09. There seems to be a bewildering array to choose form out there! We do a lot of off road walking in forests etc so it would have to be quite sturdy, with a rain shield ideally. We don't have great amounts of spare cash though. What would you recommend?

P&T really are amazing. I never liked them but bought one off ebay with all the kit for £190 and its brilliant.

pootlepod · 01/04/2009 14:08

A second hand mountain buggy. Nothing else TBH!

brettgirl2 · 01/04/2009 14:11

The all terrain buggies were demonstrated to me in Mothercare - I really don't believe there is any such thing.

I went for a normal buggy (that fitted in my small boot) and for off roading we intend to use a sling. (Or DH will haha)

I had an M&P 03 Sport and loved it, quite big but very good and massive seat.

RRP £180 so cheap compared to alot of others but just as tough IMO. I've sold it now but I have pics if you want to check it out a wee bit here.

I would defo recommend.

mamadiva · 01/04/2009 14:18

Oh and congrats

uptomyeyes · 01/04/2009 14:21

We've used our PandT through forests, along cliff paths and river sides. Fab pushchair. DS3 is almost 3 and we haven't transferred to a maclaren yet!

Disenchanted3 · 01/04/2009 14:23

2nd hand MB all the way,

you can get carrycot for new baby too, though not nesecarry IMO, just get a thick buggysnuggle.

They are fabulous!

Meglet · 01/04/2009 14:25

We have a mothercare urban detour and its fab at off road.It needed a new tyre today (only 3rd one in over 2 years) and I got a high tech no puncture Kevlar tyre for it.

We have a p+t sport too, but that's not as good for off road, but we have to use most of the time now we have 2 dc's.

millingtonsmummy · 01/04/2009 14:40

I have a Phil & Ted's Sport which I really like for going out walking. I also have a maclaren though for using in town, on buses etc. TBH no pram is going to get you everywhere you want to go, have you thought about using a sling when DC is tiny and then a rucksack like this?

brettgirl2 · 01/04/2009 15:44

That's what I thought too millingtons - the woman in the shop tried telling me you could take a three wheeler up a mountain I don't think she had ever been near a mountain!

Although with a baby you need to be careful anyway, because even with a sling you could fall and hurt the baby if the terrain was very rough.

Tamlin · 01/04/2009 15:57

We got a Quinny, but I wish we'd gone for a Phil and Ted. I see the local mothers bumping P and Ts across the local paddocks, entirely unphased - they look great.

mistlethrush · 01/04/2009 16:01

Our MB has been over lots and through lots (including axle deep mud, foot high grass, etc) It was fabulous. 2nd hand MB would be fine - if we ever have 2nd child, we would use existing MB.

mistlethrush · 01/04/2009 16:02

Brettgirl - I think MB would quite happily go up a mountain. When ds was bigger I certainly used to just wheel it down flights of steps without carefully inching it down just on its back wheels - he loved all the bouncing by then!

I think it would depend on the mountain. However, as I said the same could be said for a sling anyway.

QueenFee · 01/04/2009 21:11

We have an urban detour xtreme 3 wheeler. I have had 2 now (I have a 4 yr and 2 yr old) and I used them till they were 3+
I have used mine in woods over sand fields all sorts and it has been great.
Apparently the Jane one feels the same to push.

daisydotandgertie · 01/04/2009 21:32

Second hand Mountain Buggy Terrain with zip hammock gets my vote every time.

Out n'about Nipper- I've used mine for runs up to about 4 miles and then for longer walks. Very light with great suspension. Reclines fully for when the child falls asleep half way through the run!

bozette · 01/04/2009 22:06

Another vote for nipper 360, very light and easy to push, have been all over hills, mountains, ski slopes, as well as train and bus to central london, dh runs with it round richmond park. very reasonable price, try www.practicalpushchairs.co.uk
