I found a narrower booster seat in Tescos it was around £8 and is a couple of inches smaller than the britax booster seat I used to use.

JodieO · 30/03/2009 21:11

High backed boosters are much safer though and I'll carry on using one with mine until they outgrow them or reach the age they don't need them anymore at all. The side protection they provide to the head is the most important thing as it's side impact crashes that do the most damage.

sazm · 30/03/2009 21:17

my sis-in-law has a 307,she uses the nania high back booster from argos(with the harness) and 2 tesco boosters, and they fit in no problem at all,

FAQinglovely · 30/03/2009 21:42

the oldest is 9yrs old! We're not talking about a little kid

sazm · 30/03/2009 22:13

yep but its still MUCH safer to be in a high back booster with good side impact protection, than just on a booster as they dont give any protection at all,

FAQinglovely · 31/03/2009 16:10

ok whatever

PinkTulips · 31/03/2009 16:48

we have a ford focus and if i put them in in sequence i can get my 3 in the back.

ds1 in a group 2, dd in a group 2 and ds2 in a rear facing carryseat.

they won't fit when ds2 moves to a forward facing seat though so will have to get a 7 seater.

angevee · 31/03/2009 17:10

I have a Skoda Roomster and am expecting number three. We're intending to have the front passenger airbag turned off so that the baby can go in the front.

jellyfingers · 31/03/2009 18:04

i have ds aged 6 and dd aged 3, one in booster one in proper car seat now expecting again in july so i need third car seat but only got a lap belt in the middle. can you still use that or do you need proper seat belt?

bronze · 31/03/2009 18:08

I've managed to get 3 seats in a 307 before. You have to find the right size boosters though.
Probably easier to shop around for smaller boosters than change the car.

we have a renault megane grande scenic which easily fits three baby seats in back. Now i know it is technically a seven seater, but i am led to believe that the five seater has exactly the same back seat - with three separate seats, not a bench type seat

Joycey29 · 02/04/2009 12:45

Have you considered the Multimac car seat - 4 seats for children from 0 - 12 on your bench seat and its legal. Tested in Sweden to their high standards - it is expensive at over 1000 quid but an option.......

Children aged 3 and above, until they reach EITHER their 12th birthday OR 135cm in height

Children over 3 and up to 135 cms in height or the age of 12 MUST use a child restraint, with very few exceptions. In the Front Seat

The child MUST use the correct child restraint.

In the Rear Seat

The child MUST use the correct restraint, where seat belts are fitted.

There are three exceptions where there is not a child seat available. In each case the child MUST use the adult belt instead. They are -

  1. in a licensed taxi or private hire vehicle;

  2. if the child is travelling on a short distance for reason of unexpected necessity;

  3. if there are two occupied child restraints in the rear which prevent the fitment of a third.**

In addition, a child 3 and over may travel unrestrained in the rear seat of a vehicle if seat belts are not available.

It is the driver's legal responsibility to ensure that the child is correctly restrained.

This is from thiswww.childcarseats.org.uk/law/index.htm#under3 website. *HTH

I am amazed at how many parents choose cost or convenience over the safety aspect of care seats. If I can't get my three in my car we'll (somehow) get a bigger car - not buy cheaper car seats.

Bramshott · 18/01/2011 14:29

I would ditch the booster for the 9 year old in your situation.

How tall is he? The height limit is 135cm, which he must be pretty close to at 9 unless he's very small.

ANTagony · 18/01/2011 14:31

I have a Hyundai I10 and can get two boosters and a rear facing baby seat across the back seat.

To make it easier when they all bundle in and save fighting I've brought two of these for the older two as it makes it easier for them to buckle up. link here

Bramshott · 18/01/2011 14:32

Associatejeans - people carriers usually do really badly in crash tests, so it isn't always the safest option. Particularly if, like the OP, one child is (presumably) almost tall enough to do without a booster.

thisisyesterday · 18/01/2011 14:33

we have a volvo v70 and can easily fit 3 across the back. pics on my profile!

we have one highback booster and 2 group 1 rear facing seats.

earwicga · 18/01/2011 14:41

This is all you need. You can get them cheaper. I got mine in Halfords for about six quid a couple of years ago.

growing3rdbump · 18/01/2011 15:05

Is this your car only or family car? I would put 9 yr old possible just on the seat so long as he's big enough (you may not have another choice). I've got a picasso DCs age 3.5 and 7, so will be able to squash them all in luckily...

growing3rdbump · 18/01/2011 15:06

sorry forgot to say DC3 is on the way..

whoodoo · 18/01/2011 15:36

We have this issue with our car - an Audi A3 company car. Given it's sort of free and we live in town so only use it a couple of times a week we have gone for 4 year old in group 2 in front, 2 year old in group 2 in back and baby in group 1 rear facing in back. I have to climb in the middle and have 12 inches of arse room. It's ridiculous and painful but I have done 5 hours to Norfolk in this position. Soon I figure we can get a high back booster which may be a but narrower
