I've forgotten what good morning sickness cures are...

This is my second baby and I can't remember what was good last time for morning sickness. Although last time I was so ill I ended up not eating at all and getting really weak and ending up with a bad urine infection and in hospital because I wasn't even getting fluids down. Can't be doing that this time as I have a two year old to look after!

travelsick wrist bands from boots

digestive/ginger biscuits

eating little and often

Eyeballsinthesky · 28/03/2009 22:33

Full sugar lemonade worked for me, and thick chocolate milk. Ginger anything just made me worse and still can't eat anything gingery

dizzydixies · 28/03/2009 22:35

beans on toast and lucozade worked for me

nux vom is a homeopathic remedy for nausea but you'd need to check the strength suitable for pregnancy

Tommy · 28/03/2009 22:36

lucozade also good for me
bland foods like mashed potato and hula hoops
ginger bscuits - proper ones with chunks of ginger in them

LynetteScavo · 28/03/2009 22:37

Vitamin B6 really helped me.

And cutting out all sugar, and eating little and often, and drinking little and often.

amidaiwish · 28/03/2009 22:40

these preggie pops sweets worked for me

eat every hour/two hours at least, don't let your blood sugar drop at all.
eat before you get up in the morning
lots of carbs.
taking it as easy as possible
lots of fresh air

hope that helps. i still remember how awful i felt and DD2 is now 3.

Tillyscoutsmum · 28/03/2009 22:50

Ginger beer, strawberry milkshake and salt & vinegar hula hoops helped me (not necessarily all together though )

LissyGlitter · 28/03/2009 22:53

Thanks everyone I will go on a morning sickness shop tomorrow. We never have any "snacky" food in here as my boyfriend is a cook everything from scratch fanatic, but I will just have to insist!

LissyGlitter, I was the same as you, but eventually found that chewing on ice, fizzy water and toast and marmite helped! It is like it was yesterday, and DS is now nearly 7 months old.

katendmom · 28/03/2009 23:29

How long had your morning sicknesses lasted? I am almost 12 weeks now and frankly... I can't even remember how it feels to not be nauseous and throwing up . I tried wrist bands, B6, eating... not eating... I get a bit of relief while I am eating... literally while the food is going down... the minute I don't have food in my mouth I am sick as a dog... I hope I won't be one of those who's sick all 40 weeks...

keels26 · 29/03/2009 08:28

Marmite on toast, aniseed (cough candys used to do it or aniseed imperials).

Longtalljosie · 29/03/2009 08:50

I relied on Twiglets (similar to keels Marmite on toast I guess) - and rice cakes

LargeGlassofRed · 29/03/2009 08:50

The only thing that made any differnce was high dose vit b6 50mg I got mine for a couple of pounds on ebay. and eating.

compo · 29/03/2009 08:52

try and drink something like squash throughout the day as it gives you that little bit of extra sugar and therefore energy that water doesn't

TeamStyle · 29/03/2009 15:40

I'm only 7 weeks and I've been sick for two weeks non stop! Barely left the house, except yesterday I tried to go for breakfast and was sick outside the cafe! Nothing seems to work! Aren't I a bit early for this? It lasts throughout the night too. I've tried everything, even if I drink two gulps of water I vomit it up. At what point do I need to tell my gp?

amidaiwish · 29/03/2009 19:44

teamstyle, with DD2 i was sick from 6 weeks til about 14 (sorry to tell you that) so i don't think it is that unusual.
worth telling your GP so he can keep an eye on you but don't expect them to be able to do much! unless you get really ill/dehydrated and need to get on a drip there isn't much they can actually do. (but i am no expert so someone may come along with other experience).

bodiddly · 29/03/2009 19:52

flat coke is good for sickness as is bitter lemon - ginger biscuits, travel sickness arm band thingies, eating before you get up in the morning!

LissyGlitter · 29/03/2009 20:53

I was sick with my dd for six whole months, and she came a month early! I think I had one month before I knew I was pg and one month near the end of the pregnancy where I felt like a human being!

teamstyle I am also 7 weeks, and find milk, constant sucking on mints and cherrios is sorting me out, also NEVER having a waistband on my tummy.... I'm yanking everything down but feel a million times better!

Have you joined us on the "Due in Nov" thread?

WifeofGeek · 29/03/2009 21:09

probably nothing will help. The only thing that was nice whilst feeling sick was cold grapes from fridge.

katendmom · 29/03/2009 23:06

Just a disclaimer - I am in USA - but here if you're that sick, they have some prescription meds that they can give you. They won't do it easily but if you are sick non stop to the point of being in bed, etc - they will give you a prescription.

I have been sick since about 6 weeks (will be 12 weeks next week) and haven't found a cure yet. Chewing gum did wonders with DS but nothing works now... I thought I would get better by 10 weeks... then 12 weeks... now thinking 14 weeks?

I have to say - I am a grown up, married woman. I am 32. I wanted this baby... and I am so struggling! How do poor young girls do it? And do it alone?!?!?

Longtalljosie · 30/03/2009 17:21

Weeks 7-9 are the very worst. The only way is up...

hedgiemum · 30/03/2009 17:41

The ONLY thing that helps me (due with DC4 in June) in the wonderdrug ondansetron, combined with ranitide. If you end up in hospital again then demand to be put under a consultants care - its the only way to get the good meds!

But lets hope it never gets that bad for you. Fingers crossed...

LissyGlitter · 30/03/2009 23:39

Are the drugs completely safe?

Whoever said travel sickness wrist bands, THANK YOU!!! I've been feeling ridiculously nauseous, to the point where I've been spending most of my non-eating time in bed, but DH brought home some seabands yesterday and I haven't even gagged yet today!
