SPD already?

I am only 16weeks pg and for the last few days the pain in my groin area has been worsening. Right now I cannot walk round the house without feeling intense pain.
This is my second pregnancy, my first was 4yrs ago. I had mild SPD then that started about month 7, I could still walk then but every step was painful.
This seems way to early to start. Is it possible? I haven't done anything that would make me strain that area, I have walked regularly since being pg...not speed walking but I have kept mobile.
Any tips on getting through this.

It's not too early IME. My first clue that I was PG with my fourth was severe pelvic pain. It'd be worth getting along to the docs and asking for some physio appts. to give you some advice.

I am pg with my 2nd - first time around got it at 21 wks, this time . . . . seven weeks .

I am nine weeks now and already in agony - can't walk far, struggle to get up and down off the floor and have the agonising cracking when I turn over in bed.

V hard when I have a 9 mth old to cope with and another seven months of pg.

The only thing that really works is rest, but I have booked in for osteopathy and physio.

May start believing in the power of prayer if I get truly desperate .

Sorry to hear you're suffering too.

things that help SPD in my experience:

  • slippery sheets / pjs so that there is as little friction as possible as night.
  • avoid any pushing of shopping trolleys.
  • get a support belt thing.
  • cushions / beanbag to prop your legs on in bed.
  • rest
  • good posture

Try searching on the names herbietea and boffinmum as I know they have posted a lot about SPD.

Unfortunately it's not too early to get it. As soon as your hormones start changing (ie straight away) then you're at risk.

Broguemums suggestions are all good, but also get a physio referral sorted asap.

I found aV shaped pillow helped along with the support belt. My hospital also gave me refelxology on the nhs to try and help with the pain. My consultant refused to let me have a natural birth and after a cs never suffered again. Hope you feel better soon! know how it feels!

Get referred to a physio as soon as possible. I was bad from eight weeks, and now am just about ok as long as I take it really easy. I'm 20 weeks, and having my pelvis realigned, then getting loads of exercises to release the back and strengthen my core muscles have turned things around.

I was terrified things would keep getting worse, like they did with my first, but for now at least, I'm coping.

Unfortunately with SPD it can come anytime from the minute you are pregnant and you body starts to release the 'relaxin' hormone.
I had SPD from 11 weeks... Although I wasn't diagnosed until nearly 33 weeks...
I was in agony and everyone told me it was normal!!!
I did find the belt they gave me very helpful I was also taking lots of Codeine (which I wouldn't recommend)
xx

I'm same as you, 14 weeks now and had it since 6 weeks. Definitely recommend a chiropracter or osteopath. Very expensive, but worth it in the long run, the earlier you go the better.
You're lucky Hawkmoth, our physios don't do any realigning, just give all pg Mums to be the same advice about moving, lifting etc and a belt.
