Hi

I came off the pill in January and then had a normal period 28 days later (I think the cycle was actually 27 days) on 14th Feb. I have not had a period since then, putting me on CD41 today. I did a test the day my period was "due" (assuming the cycle last time was what my cycle length is IYSWIM). Negative. Did another CD 34, Negative. Then did another on CD39, which was Tuesday. It was a sensitive ebay strip test (think the sort used by NHS). Very faint positive within time limit. I always drink lots during the day so did another one yesterday morning ? another ebay one and a First Response. Faint positive, FR one a bit stronger. Then I did another two this morning ? one ebay and one Boots own. Positive ? faintish but a bit stronger (within time limit). I know I sound like a psycho but I re-tested so many times because I wasn?t sure if they were evap lines (my husband could see them too and they are coloured not grey).

Soooo, my quandary is? when on earth did I ovulate, and therefore assuming I am pregnant, have I inadvertently tested very early instead of very late as I assumed? Given that it is faint and seemingly getting slightly stronger I think it is very early days ? annoying because I didn?t want to test early, and assuming my period would be due 14 days after ov that would make it Monday or Tues (according to FF I ov?d on CD31 ? but until I charted a positive result it wasn?t saying I ovulated at all ? how reliable is it??)

Sorry for enormous post I know no one will know the answer! Have booked a docs appt for Monday just in case. I really just don?t want to find out (by accident really) that I have had a CP, ie positives now but I might get my period next week.

Sounds familiar, I thought I found out with a verry faint line at five weeks only to be told at the date scan that I'd actually tested positive at three weeks. This means I conceived when my period was already a week late anyway!!! God knows what my body was up to, but I won't blame my hubby for never trusting me again when I say 'don't worry we're safe at the moment' That was the first time I'd ever felt sufficiently confident to say it as my cycle had been like clockwork for the six months before. Safe, hah!!

Forgot to say a huuugeeee congrats BTW!!
Just remembering how many positive tests I took - unfortunately followed by a useless dr who told me I wasn't!! - then looked down at my wonderful, wonderful 20 week bump and am smiling like an idiot...
We were supposed to be trying after one last boozy xmas but some LOs just won't wait will they?
Good luck!

Thank you! It's nice to know someone else was in the same boat. Congrats to you too!

Am just thinking I am not at the moment as I just don't believe in testing early but have done by accident. Paranoid it will turn out to be a CP now...I suppose, like you, I thought I was almost 2 weeks late. Apparently not. Suppose if all goes well would eventually find out at scan.

When my GP diagnosed me as not pregnant after all those positive home tests that was my first thought too, I was soooooooooo upset, then tested the next day, another positive, and figured he was just a muppet. As the hospital later confirmed.

The most useful but hard to follow advice I got was: Try not to worry. Sooo much easier to say than to do, but try to enjoy yourself before any of the vile symptoms come along.
Mind I'm still worrying about one thing or another 20 weeks in. Figure it might be a pregnancy symptom in itself!

Hawkmoth · 26/03/2009 14:16

You could be five weeks gone... false negatives are much more common than false positives, especially if you drink a lot of water.

The uncertainty over dates means you may be able to get an early scan.

Congratulations

Good thinking Hawkmoth... darn why didn't that occur to me at the time??

Hawkmoth · 26/03/2009 14:21

Poppet, I was the same as you, but I ovulated really EARLY... for the first time ever. DP was rather shocked, oddly enough he's not up for getting the snip just yet.

Kingsroadie · 26/03/2009 15:24

Thanks guys! I am quite pragmatic, so not going to get excited yet, and I am aware that there is NOTHING I can do about it so there?s not much point in worrying?

Will toddle off to the Doctors on Monday and am also happy to pay for an early scan if dates are unsure (which they seem to be!) Off skiing next Friday so probably won?t be enough time for an early scan anyway! (If, of course, nothing goes wrong in the next few days?)

Okay psycho tester again but the ebay strips were SO cheap it doesn't matter. It's getting stronger (not really strong suddenly, but stronger all the same) - is that a good thing? Hope so!

And again - just looked at this sight www.pregnancy-health-center.com/early-pregnancy-tests.html

and my lines are stronger than these so maybe what I thought was "very faint" is not so faint!
