Went to see midwife last week and she is saying i am a week ahead of what i say i am, it didn't bother me i just thought maybe i had it wrong. Then i went to see her again on tuesday for bloods she measured baby etc and said i am measuring small.

So could someone please help me work out how far gone i am please. I am due 24th of June. So i think i am 27 +1 but the midwife is saying i am 28 +1.

I know people would be happy being put a week further on than what they are but i am trying for a vbac this time and they wont let me go 12 days overdue, so if her dates are wrong she is making me 7 days early already.

Thanks for any help.

I make that 27+1, since there are just under 13 weeks to 24 June.

Shouldn't the cut-off be a certain period after your due date?

pandagirl03 · 26/03/2009 09:41

Thanks mrs happy, you make it the same as me. The baby is also measuring at 27 weeks. I would hope the cut off is after my due date but if she is saying i am a week ahead you never know what will happen. thanks again.

I guess you'll see a consultant before they decide what to do if you go overdue, so it won't only be up to the midwife.
Don't worry too much - it'll be ok.

hobbgoblin · 26/03/2009 09:47

What do your scan dates say?

pandagirl03 · 26/03/2009 09:52

My scan dates say i am due 24th June, both scans have said the same, my 12 week scan and 20 week scan. Baby was measuring bang on my scan dates. I'm really not sure how she has came up with i am 28+1.

Mrs happy hopefully i would see a consultant first. I have seen the consultant already and as i said i wanted a vbac and everything was going fine he said i dont need to see them again and would be passed back just for midwife care.

is this based on the baby's measurements? if so, you should base your dd on your period dates since baby sizes vary so much. DS2 (now 3 weeks) measured 2 or 3 weeks bigger than he was 'supposed' to all through the pregnancy but the midwife and consultant went with a due date based on my last period since the measurents they use are based on average sized babies 2 generations ago. Also don't forget growth spurts can throw things at any point in the pregnancy.

If you are going for vbac you will be consultant led so you can talk it through with them.

what do you mean they won;t let you go 12 days overdue?

you cannot be made to have an induciton or c.s if labour has not begun

if your baby is happy in utero and all is well, you can go to term + 14, your best chance of a succesful VBAC begins with a spontaneous start to labour, when you and your baby are ready.

if she is saying it based on fundal height, then there is a margin for error, the most accurate dating is your 12 weeks scan, or any earlier scanning. if you are measuring 27 weeks and you are 27 weeks by your LMP and 12 weeks scan, then i would go by those dates

hobbgoblin · 26/03/2009 09:58

Yes, your LMP dates are what count - particularly as scan dates say the same. I don't think you need to worry about this one midwife. In any case, remember, it is your decision.

Hi lulumama

When i went to see consultant they said about a vbac, but he said we will not let you go into a long labour, they will not induce me and i will not be allowed to go 12 days overdue. He said if any of those things happen i would not be able to have a vbac it will be a section.

I wont be seeing a consultant again because they have handed me back for midwife care only now.

I only had a section with dd because she was breech.

I am praying that i will go into labour. thanks for all your help.

your consultant and midwife can advise you what to do, not force you or demand you follow a course of action.

www.aims.org.uk is a good place to look for support and advice

for instance, the hospital where i doula do induce for VBACs ( pessary only) and you can go post dates.

i would get a second opinion if i were you

and you can make informed decisions to accpet./decline any of the care offered to you

there is little chance you will delvier spontaneously at term as only 5 % of babies are born on their due date, you might go into labour ebfore your dates, but it is more likely to be around 41 weeks.

pandagirl03 · 26/03/2009 10:30

Thank you so much lulumama, that advice is great. I dont want to be forced into anything. Might be back nearer the time for some more advice. I really want a vbac and at the moment there is no reason why i cant, so dont want them to try and stop me, they should encourage people not put them off.

you're welcome, there is a thread in the childbirth topic called 'support for imminent VBACers', with loads of good info, birth stories and links to research. you should take a look. I have had a VBAC and I know how hard it can be emotionally to try and prepare and plan especially when you feel the MWs and doctors are being negative
