Insomnia at 19 weeks

I'm 19 weeks pregnant, and for the last two nights I have slept really badly. On Sunday night, I woke up at 2.30 and couldn't get back to sleep till about 5.30. Last night, I woke at 12.30 and was awake for at least two hours.

I have been really tired for weeks - falling asleep while watching telly most evenings, and have been waking up in the night more frequently, but up till now I have been able to get straight back to sleep. I'm hoping the last two nights are just a blip - but just in case, does anyone have any suggestions?

Get a Nintendo DS or similar, or some mindnumbing games on your phone.

I'm 19 weeks too and sleep patterns not great. With DD I could watch sport on telly all the time, now I'm not on my own I have to be more considerate and not wake DP up.

I play this cruddy block swapping game on my phone and it turns off all my thoughts and I can relax and go back to sleep again.

I agree with Hawkmoth. I had terrible insomnia when I was pregnant with DD and borrowing my sisters DS saved me! It quite liked it and it stopped me thinking about not sleeping so it was easier to fall asleep again IYSWIM?

If you can't beat it then make it something you enjoy. I used to Sky+ programmes and then get up and watch them when I couldnt sleep. I kind of enjoyed it in the end.

As soon as I saw a +ve result, pregnancy insomnia seemed to kick in.
Get a good book, always found reading helped me relax and would normally get back to sleep again after a couple of hours.
Failing that, fleecy blanket on sofa, green and blacks hot chocolate and watch some TV.

I suffer from crappy insomnia too (since November. NOVEMBER!!) I find what makes it worse is worrying about getting up for work the next day - if I can possibly put that out of my mind I tend to fall asleep again - if not, then it's my usual 4.30am arisal from bed.
Oh, and I've been trying not to go to bed at 9pm on the dot. I don't think letting yourself fall asleep too early helps much.

U have my total sympathy. I've had insmonia on and off from 7 weeks and I'm now 25 weeks and I still get it a couple of nights a week now. I try and see it like it's my body's way of getting me used to sleepless nights lol.

Sorry no advise to give I'm affraid - I just lie there and go insane trying to get back to sleep!

Don't look at the clock! It just leads to more anxiety about how long you've been awake and how you are going to survive the day which makes it harder to get back to sleep.

Nooooo! I wanted the miracle cure!

Thanks for the advice everyone - here's hoping I don't have to implement it tonight...

Hope you had a good night, its rubbish isn't it? Wouldn't mind if it was jet lag from a long haul trip, but for no good reason, grr. You could also try a glass of milk + a bit of banana if you can't get back to sleep. For some reason this usually helps me, then I sit around in the dark downstairs looking outside and getting bored (don't like to get my brain going too much if I can help it) for a little bit then usually manage to get back off to sleep. So still awake for 45mins or so - but better than 2 hours+ which is what I found if I didn't get up and have the milk etc. Sometimes I have milk+banana before going to bed, and I think I might sleep better on those nights. Worth a go!

Thanks - slept normally last night (yeay!) so just averagely knackered today! I did stay up later last night (fell asleep on the sofa again), so I'm thinking that might have helped.

I think if it happens again I will just get up and do something - lying in bed trying to fall asleep was really annoying

Im using a pregnancy relaxation and meditation cd listen to it in bed and also play it again if i wake up early hours. Find that really useful, I bought it on ebay.
