Just had the most delicious lunch (venison loin) but I'm feeling a wee bit guilty/worried. It was slightly bloody...I suppose it was "medium" cooked. I hardly ever eat meat, so I;m not v clued up about meat and pregnancy. Is it OK to eat meat that's not totally cooked to a crisp? It had been cut and cooked in small steaks iykwim, and I think it was hot all the way through.

don't know but I are lots of rare meat when pg and it did not occur to me not to. Not sure whether that helps

You'll be fine, the risk of getting food poisoning from rare red meats is really very slim - hence why they can be served that way. Chicken/pork however is a different matter, and don't come in 'rare/medium/well done'.

It's not food poisoning that's the risk, it's toxoplasma and you can get that from pink meat. But it is supposed to be killed by freezing (or so I've read - I'm not an expert!) and I think it's very unlikely a restaurant would be getting fresh venison steak - 99% chance it's been frozen

Thank you all!

Yes it's generally accepted that the tissue cysts of toxoplasma are killed by freezing overnight at -20C.
