Starting to worry about baby's lack of movements (34 weeks), how much does/did yours move please

Hi I'm 34 + 4 weeks and my baby has barely moved all day again. Since he first started kicking at 19 weeks he seems to have followed a pattern of a few days movement followed by a few days where he is extremely quiet and I may not feel movement all day, so in a way this is not unusual for him.

Just starting to worry now because he is so big, how can I possibly not feel his movements and why would does he go quiet for days on end?

I've mentioned it several times to midwife and she says if I get worried to ring the hospital and go in for a heart trace which I've already done once at 29 weeks and everything was fine. I'm seriously considering ringing them again in a bit, but tbh I can't see how just recording his heartbeat is going to help, I'm worried something else may be wrong.

Just to add I have a heart sounds monitor at home so I know he's alive and my placenta is anterior which I know can cushion movements but surely not when he's this big, I mean I can feel his body if I press on my bump, he's just not moving!!

Just wanted to know if anyone had or was experiencing similar please TIA

I had an emergency c/s at 39 weeks with ds2 due to lack of fetal movements. I thought it was because he had less room to move too. He was severely anaemic and needed a blood transfusion. The heart monitor in the hospital picks up movements as well as the heartbeat. I thought I was being a drama queen when I went in but my baby would have died if I hadn't.

Hope everything is okay.

fwiw, I went to see the midwife / hospital a couple of times for lack of movement. They always seemed to advise drinking a really cold drink with lots of ice as apparently that can make the baby wriggle, and if no movements in 20 minutes after drinking, to see a midwife / go to the pregnancy unit.

I think I had difficulties with movements because I had an anterior placenta which was cushioning the blows.

Hello everyone, sorry I've took so long to reply been at my mums all weekend with no internet access.

Well I went to the hospital straight after I posted on here. Baby's trace was absolutly fantastic, up and down continually and I felt quite abit of movement once they put the pads on. Midwife and Doctor said there was no cause for concern at all but to go back again any time if I was worried. As usual he is back to his 'active' days again and is moving pretty frequently.

Mrsboogie that is exactly the pattern this one does (also a boy we believe) approximately 3 days active, 3 days quiet, glad to hear everything was ok and I totally understand what you're saying about being worried but not worried.

Elfonthetopshelf I'm guessing my anterior placenta is also the cause of me not feeling movements.

Thanks to everyone for replying, I really appreciate it
