Round ligament pain - Is it safe to walk through the pain?

I'm 19 weeks and regularly walk 2 miles a day at lunch but recently I've been getting the "pain on the right hand side of my abdomen" symptom which goes when I've finished my walk. I don't want to give up my walk but equally don't want to do any damage. Has anybody got any advice? Thanks

I stopped running at 30 weeks due to the flu (second bout this winter) but the ligament pain was also presenting itself more (I was doing between 3 and 5 miles 3 times a week). I found if I ran at a slower cadence with less bouncing the pain didn't present itself but decided to conserve energy (with three kids to look after and renovations to plan for). Two miles is not too big a distance so could you try walking a bit slower so that you are bouncing baby less? Would that help? You are only halfway through so it would be a shame to give up what sounds like a favourite activity of yours and staying mobile is really great throughout any pregnancy. You can buy a Belly Belt to help (if you haven't already got one). Experiment with pace and support, eg a belt or change in shoes or way you carry your bag (if you carry one), to see if that helps during your walk. Don't push through it but instead look at ways of avoiding the pain coming on as I suspect putting up with persistent ligament pain for the sake of completing a two mile walk is not advisable. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice MoshiMoshi. I thought about a belly belt. I do try to take my time and my pace has slowed dramatically. It's not a pain that makes me want to stop during my walk, its more annoying than anything.

Hi
I stopped walking to and from work- about 30 mins each way at a fair pace- for this reason, although I was a good bit further on than you, maybe about 25-30weeks, and the discomfort had developed to the point where I needed a bath every night for the aches...I got a slap on the wrist from the physio and I think I should have given up on the "pushing through" mentality of my pre-pregnancy self a while before I did!! I have missed my walks but it's not for long, and the corset thing that the obstetric physio gave me has made gentle walks possible again (after about 6 weeks recuperation with no exercise) now that I am off on mat leave (at 38weeks). If you want to try and keep going, I agree, slow down and maybe reduce the frequency and see how that goes. Good luck!
