heavy bleeding and clotting

For any expectant mums that have suffered heavy bleeding and clotting in their pregnancy you may find my experience interesting. I am now 30 weeks pregnant with my first baby and we are both healthy. I however, had a very rocky start experiencing heavy bleeding at 10weeks. I lost alot of blood at work and continued to bleed for about an hour soaking sanitary towels and filling the toilet bowel. The bleeding stopped shortly after passing a large 'clot' about the size of a plughole...i of course thought i had a misscarriage and was devastated. I spoke to a midwife who over the phone 'confirmed' i had lost the baby and made no further recommendation. My partner and i then spent the next few days mourning our loss. 2 days after, i started to pass brown blood. I was advised by GP to visit A+E. I had a scan which confirmed the pregnancy was still viable!? they couldnt explain the heavy bleed. The following week i had 2 further heavy bleeds, each time passing a massive clot. Hospital staff couldnt explain it. One nurse told us it was likely i was loosing the baby and advised it could take 3 weeks for a complete misscarriage....just the news you want to hear. It was an aweful time, i was afraid each time i went to the toilet. I was not offered another scan until the standard 12 week scan where the sonographer confirmed i had a haematoma (bruise inside the womb). This was breaking up and consequently i was passing blood. I had another heavy bleed that afternoon (the last time). At my 20week scan i was told the haemotoma was negligable. Our experience was horrible, made worse by a handful of medical staff that offered little support and advise. If you are in a similiar situation, please keep positive and look after yourself! i can certainly empathise. there is hope...i cant wait to meet the new addition to our family.

I'm glad all is well with you and your baby now.

Have you considered that you may have miscarried a twin?

Thank you! Yes we thought it may have been a second baby....the only info we have to suggest this wasnt the case was confirmation of only one baby at the 10 week scan. i then continued to bleed heavily after this...the haemtoma was detected later.

I had exaactly the same experience at 12 weeks

they told us we had lost our baby but needed to be seen at the epu because they needed to see is we had lost all the baby
went to the epu the next day and there said there the baby is jumping around

they eventually siad it was probably a heamatoma but the amount of bleeding was awful and just didn't stop like you describe
