i'm still bit in shock, just got the phonecall an hour ago and trying to assess what it really means.
been offered amnio on thursday...we are supposed to go holiday on friday..my mind's just whirling

i'd like to hear any advice/ reassurance from anyone who's had a high risk result and taken amnio. i'm worried about the risks of the amnio and confused about the triple test results. i can't seem to find any information on how accurate the test really is

Good luck.
It can hurt quite a lot, by the way. I guess you should be warned. Some people don't mind, but don't be surprised if you're very achy afterwards (this will NOT in and of itself mean you are miscarrying).

mamamila · 12/03/2009 09:51

i'd rather you hadn't told me that mloo, cheers

Sorry! I guess the thing is, if it does hurt, that in itself isn't something to worry about. It's pretty normal; it doesn't mean that things are going wrong.

well mloo i'm assuming you've never had an amnio test as i'm home already and it didn't hurt at all actually. no more than a blood test and i'm a huge baby painwise. i do feel reassured that dr hasn't had an amnio mc for at least 3 years. also baby was quite still unlike last scan when it took a long time to take measurements as he/ she was jumping constantly.

the dr wasn't as warm as i'd hoped for and didn't look for markers as the midwife had said she would. dr also said they will only test for downs/ edwards/ patau but results should be back by monday. i did ask if she could see the sex and she said she'd be inclined to say labia but not to rely on it

hmm so now i'm on the sofa and just waiting...

Yey am glad to hear it went well and yours didn't hurt at all! You must be starting to feel a little calmer I hope, now relax and try to unwind. Easier said than done, but you've done the hard bit.
I really don't think Mloo was trying to be unhelpful in that last post btw, infact I think she probably has had one and was just trying to reassure you that if it hurts it doesn't mean something awful is happening, just that the doc might be a bit cack handed. Great. Or at least that's how I read it.
Anyway good luck!

Glad to hear it went well.

I also think mloo was trying to help by reassuring you not to panic if it dies hurt IFYSWIM.

Good luck.

just wanted to wish you well mamamila

thanks peeps!

thank god for mn hey, i've found out so much reading up on here and even the sad stories help prepare me mentally for the fact that sometimes it does go wrong.
i've kind of entered into the state of mind like when you go to dentist or on a plane, i'm not in control of this so just stay calm and wait for it to be over

I did have amnio, and it hurt like hell at the time, and was quite achy for a week afterwards. I'm amazed that it's often described as 'merely' uncomfortable.
But I am glad you had a better experience.
