Nursing chairs

Hi everyone,

We are thinking of buying a nursing chair and currently deciding between these two:

The Dutailier Sophie:

www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_165_10751_-1_14053_57430_10001_14053?cm_ sp=productlisterpage--endecapromotions--bannerproduct#description_tab

And this generic recliner glider from Mums2b:

I hear that the Dutailer is better quality but it doesn't recline so I am wondering how much nicer it is to have a chair that also reclines? Can anyone help me choose?!

Thanks so much!

I never understood why people feel the need to buy nursing chairs. It all seems like a waste of money to me.

Anyway, if I were to choose, I would go for the cheaper one because it is cheaper and it reclines.

A comfy sofa and a nursing pillow would suffice for me. They are nice chairs though, but I too would go for the cheapest one.

I also fail to see the point of these chairs.
But if you have money to burn go for the one you like

Thanks everyone!

I also found this one, which looks much better:

If anyone has positive experiences to share that would be great.

Thanks!

I bought one, unfortunately never used it for it's 'purpose' it is more a glorified wardrobe where I chuck clean washing waiting to be put away, can't really see chair anymore

You could always take it off my hands ;)

I have an all singing all dancing one by Dutailer - it cost a FORTUNE and was my birthday and christmas present from DH. Although I think they are pretty ugly in general I absolutely love mine. It is so comfy to both breast and bottle feed in and even though DS now feeds himself I still kick back in it to watch In the Night Garden and read him stories. I also comfort him there if he wakes in the middle of the night - the rocking motion always does the trick. Most of my friends had one and all loved theirs. One friend bought a second hand one from ebay in a particularly unappealing colour so got it for a song then had it reupholstered in a really nice 'grown up' furnishing fabric and it looks great

I have one very similar to the cheaper one you have linked to. In the weeks leading up to the birth it was the only chair I could get comfortable in, and afterwards I found it fantastic for nursing. I used it constantly and will be putting it back into service for no.3 later this year.

The recline option is good as on the occasions when she was having a bad night I would doze in it.

A woman I know has a Dutalier and loves it.

IlanaK · 08/03/2009 21:06

I am currently sitting in my Dutallier watching TV and mumsnetting . I do nurse in it, but I bought it to replace our main armchair in our lounge as I sat on one at a friend's and it was so much more comfy than anything else.

I would never spend that amount of money on a chair that would sit in a bedroom though and only be used for nursing. It takes pride of place in our living room!

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 08/03/2009 21:12

I loved my nursing chair and used it loads with dd but really wished it had reclined. In fact I was trying to convince dh earlier that I really will need a replacement before this one arrives! It was a cheapy from kiddicare and did do the job though and was nice in the middle of the night in those early months before I mastered feeding lying down in bed, also in the daytime when I wanted to feed dd quietly before her nap. I really did want one that reclines so not sure if your priority should be absolute comfort or reclining.. tough call.

BoffinMum · 08/03/2009 21:15

I recently bought one because I have SPD, and find it hard to sit for long in our other chairs. I had always seen them as a wanton extravagence, until I had to go into hospital for a few days, and tried one out in the bf room there. It was a relevation, so I bought one as soon as I got home, complete with footstool. I use it all the time, and everyone who sits in it loves it. I got mine from John Lewis and it's a Dutalier non-reclining model.

lisad123 · 08/03/2009 21:15

love mine too
I'd go for a reclining one

chaya5738 · 08/03/2009 21:37

Thanks so much everyone

The only thing we have to sit on in our living room is a crappy two-seater Argos sofa that is very uncomfortable and very low to the ground. The nursing chair will be my special chair that I will use pre-birth and for nursing.

Thanks for all your advice. Really appreciate it. Think I will go with the reclining chair from Kiddicare.
