Mountain Buggy

So after a few weeks researching prams, we finally decided on the mountain buggy urban after much deliberation. We went to check it out today and found it to be a great pram and really perfect for our needs. Got to the checkout only to find that Mountain Buggy have gone into receivership!!

So the question is would we be mad to go ahead and make a MB purchase (we are still able to get one) in case warranties etc are obsolete.

Have to start my research all over again, much to my husband's dismay!!

Personally, I would go ahead. It is robust buggy and we never had anything go wrong. Is it jsut the UK end that has gone into receivership - are the NZ manufacturers still in operation?

Disenchanted3 · 06/03/2009 15:30

They are VERY sturdy,

I would still go ahead.

I have one and love it - didn't know that about them. Might even be worth getting one shipped, or one second hand?

highrise · 06/03/2009 15:35

As far as I can tell, it's the NZ end that's gone into receivership. We just love it so much and feel like anything else from there that we've seen is a compromise.

Founf this to reassure you.

curlywurlycremeegg · 06/03/2009 17:11

Have had one for 4 years with no probs, I wouldn't worry, there is very little on them that can "go wrong".

Sycamoretree · 06/03/2009 17:24

Our double Mountain buggy is FANTASTIC. So well made. We had the carrycot on one side when DS was first born.

Best wadge of cash we ever spent. I don't think you'll have problems.

thanks for all the messages. i have read so many positive reviews of the pram and after seeing it today, really think it's what we're after.

Thanks again.

We bought one last week because my mother pointed out that any competent bike shop could fix one with ease - they're cannibalised bikes, basically. There's nothing much to go wrong, but the wheels can be replaced in a bike shop and the frame can be mended there. They hold value really well second hand, too.

We got ours from Chariots www.pushchairs.co.uk after calling MB direct in Devon. They offer great freebies and a good price on Terrains. www.lullabys.co.uk only sell urbans but are a brilliant, brilliant company. Both are a bit more than the likes of Bambino Direct/TwoLeftFeet, but they actually deliver next day, instead of 7 weeks if you're lucky. And the aftercare is wonderful with Lullabys too - yet to learn if that's so with Chariots, but their sales & delivery were ace.

MB urbans at Lullaby's and Chariots.

highrise · 07/03/2009 16:15

Thanks qally, chariots atp is the deal we were looking at, our local pram centre will match the deal which is great as they'd be able to keep the pram until nearer the time (not due til June). Although they did say due to the receivership issue they may not be able to get it for us, we're just waiting to hear back from them. So we may just order direct. I'll go check lullaby's now.

I know it's really obvious and you'd probably never dream of anything else, I'm just saying because it's not been obvious to me/DH on occasion... but always use a credit card for things that aren't going to get delivered till June? So many really reputable companies are going under atm.

MB fold down fairly small, too, especially with wheels off, in case you did decide to get it earlier.

highrise · 08/03/2009 07:38

Yeah that's a good point, it's hard to know that anyone is safe these days. thanks again for all the help.

Just one other question, which car seats are compatible with the MB? We were planning on buying the carrycot, so don't anticipate that we'll need to use it much.

There's honestly not much that can go wrong with it.

I've found the brake on mine has stuck a couple of times, but other than that they just last for years and years and years.

I can't imagine anything breaking!

JaneSeymour · 08/03/2009 08:18

Sorry not sure about car seats.

As someone said, if you have to get a buggy anyway, this one is likely to be better and stronger than most others - so you're less likely to need aftercare than if you get a cheaper or less good brand.

I've got the Elite which has the lovely cotton canvas fabrics, rather than the man made stuff. Worth paying the extra 100 or so imo.

curlywurlycremeegg · 08/03/2009 09:32

I have used both a Britax baby safe and Maxi Cosi cabrio fix on mine. The car seat fixings aren't pretty, not as neat as the little clips on something like a Bugaboo, there is a strap that goes over the lap belt position of the car seat to hold it in place (my have changed as mine is nearly 5 years old now). We rarely used ours though as had a carrycot and used the sling seat from early on as have the terrain model that has a more hammock like seat for younger babies.

Sycamoretree · 09/03/2009 14:35

Can I just say, please do not use TWOLEFTFEET, not for anything. They are utter crooks. Just a quick google and you'll find a million threads full of terrible customer complaints.

They take your money at point of order, then it transpires they don't have the item, and you have to wait two months and beyound to get your money back, and they take all the lovely interest.

I found out the hard way when I ordered our MG through them.

In the end, we got it through chariots, as you plan to. The man there was SO nice. Couldn't do enough for us and the deal was great.
