I'm 17/18 weeks pregnant (slight disagreement between my dates and the ultrasonographer), utterly paranoid, and haven't felt as much movement for the last day or two. The little thing was very busy on Wednesday- I was even getting the odd kick along with the squirming. Did I mention I was paranoid?

I can't actually remember if this is normal or not. I seem to think that my third child was like this, but it was about a thousand years ago and I might just be clutching at straws. I know, I'm just paranoid and neurotic.

its still very small at 17/18weeks - it might just mean he/she has moved into a different position. I felt like this on my second baby at about that time and the midwife reassured me that it was so early anyway and not to worry - they say not to worry about regular movement until you are into your 20+ weeks.

Its hard though when you have been feeling it and then it stops - but it will return!

Thank you red. I think it's still growing: in the mornings my uterus is right up near my tummy button now. I just have to keep remembering that growth=still alive.

mine was like that first thing in the morning too! You have 3 children, so you are probably busy with them to notice movements anyway! give it a few weeks, he/she will be kicking like mad then!

duchesse · 06/03/2009 11:06

Haha- I hardly see my children! They're all at secondary school on frantic schedules, leave the house at 8 and I usually don't see them again until at least 5 pm (7 tonight for my son). Plus I work from home, so plenty of time and peace and quiet to angst about how often junior is shifting around...

I don't believe anyone is too busy to notice movements. It is still early but you have had movements so I would ask the midwife what is a the advice at this stage. Any movement changes in the last few weeks needs checking and it might be the case at this stage too.

ephrinedaily · 06/03/2009 11:11

If you're still getting movement, even if less, it might be because it's moved somewhere more 'hidden' iyswim. This used to happen in my first pregnancy up to about 24 weeks and drive me mad. If you're not getting any movement go and get checked out just for your own peace of mind.

You're not paranoid or neurotic and don't let anyone say you are, if you were a neurotic person you would have rushed to A & E by now.The fact is you're worried about your baby and you're allowed to be.(PS Bet baby wakes up a bit just as you're waiting to see MW. DS used to do this on purpose )

I had this worry a few weeks ago, started feeling movements at 14 weeks, then at 16/17 weeks all went very quiet for a week couldn't feel a thing.I was very sick with tummy bug,But all was fine just had 21 week scan.
I think they must lay in rest for a bit when they need to.Just like we do when tired!

I think it might be growing at the moment- I keep getting really hungry; I even got up in the middle of the night to eat bread, marinated anchovies, and tomatoes two nights ago. At 4am!!

Baby definitely not "quiet" this evening in fact appears to be dancing the rhumba. Am getting kicks all over the place. Maybe it's an octopus.

I had this all the time, after 26 weeks I had to go and get it checked (at 32 weeks, and no felt movements for 3 days, the midwife on the phone was so doom and gloom, she finished off with a rather sad "good luck") because I just had the placenta bang in the front centre of my bump, absorbing almost all the kicks. I only really felt his elbows in my hips, and the bum in my ribs, and his hiccups, by the end. Definitely worth calling in and getting things checked out if they ask you to - I was hooked up to monitors more than once - but don't panic. Babies, like everyone else, differ. And how they lie and the placenta is placed affects what you can feel. And 18 weeks is so early that you won't feel much sometimes, because the baby's so ickle.

Went to midwife today- little one's heart rate was between 142 and 157 while she listened, so spot on. Also got a huge kick in the stomach (the electric shock kind) while standing in the supermarket a short while later- so baby very much not quiet now!
