Does anyone know if it safe to take?

Was given it by the EPU but then keep reading that all you should take in pregnancy is paracetamol

Am confused?!

To the person who asked if you can take too much - yes you can, but it's generally the paracetamol that would harm you if you did. The x/500 means x of codeine and 500mg of paracetamol. Don't take over the Recommended dose or you can take too much paracetamol! it doesn't take too much paracetamol to do damage.

If your doc has prescribed them in pregnancy, then take them as directed. Your consultant or doctor knows what they are doing.
