I have some Boots points to spend and will be popping into town tomorrow! Any tips on what I could get - oil, cream? - for £10 or less to help ease this infernal itching?

Palmers Cocoa Butter - amazing stuff.

£4.00 ish

Palmers is good, but Bio-oil is ace too, and it smells gorgeous!

I just used nivea on mine or astrell cream - really cheap and cold which was lovely. I itched all over and practically bathed in the stuff.

Bio-oil, keep it in the fridge, blissfull.

And when mine got really bad towards the end, lying down and stroking it with one of those body bush things, I did make it bleed a few times though, so lots of relief, but maybe not the best idea.

Palmers - have just discovered it and I love it!

Thanks very much to you all! Looking forward to getting some relief, the itching is driving me slightly mad!

I'm sure that some of the suggestions here will help, but I 'd check with your midwife just in case it is Obstetric Cholestasis which can be dangerous in pregnancy, though most often presents itself as itchy hands and feet. It is very rare but I've suffered from it myself and had to be monitored/blood tests etc. It is where your liver does not cope with the raised homone levels of the pregnancy. Once monitored you should be fine. Hopefully it is not the case, but it does sound like your itching is driving you mad so I'd get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

Clarins body oil (if your boots has a clarins counter) is fab. It smells divine and works a treat. (am currently addicted to it at 30 wks!)

I used aloe vera gel from health food shop. cheap & effective. good for sunburn too.

I read something somewhere? the other day that avioding hot showers can help with itchy skin. I'm also using an organic enriching body butter from M&S. I have palmers coco butter but don't like the smell.

After sun lotion with cooling agents in it. Will cool the itch right down. My bump was extremely painful due to itchy skin when I was pregnant with dd, after sun settled it right down.

Hi there - just in case your bump is even more itchy than normal you might have what I had. I had an extremely itchy bump and it was diagnosed as PUPPP....google it and you'll see the full name. It is a condition where the itch is really bad but it isn't a health risk like Obstetric Cholestasis that thomasmad mentioned. I tried loads of the usual creams on my bump but none worked. There is a website called Naomi's PUPPP page where she discusses PUPPP & lots of possible remedies. I tried some of the ones that I thought looked harmless to my bump. My doc prescribed me pills for it, but I wasn't keen on taking them. The one thing that helped was putting a muslin bag of oats in the bath and washing my bump with Neutrogena T/Gel shampoo! On the bright side...the itching disappeared the minute I had given birth! Hope your itch goes away with normal creams but thought this might help in case it doesn't.
