I'm 20 weeks and have put on roughly a stone in weight. I've been trying not to weigh myself and if I look in the mirror I would say if anything my legs look thinner, yet today when I hopped on the scales at my mothers she was horrified. She tells me her doctor friends assure her that during pregnancy you shouldn't gain more than a stone throughout the whole pregnancy! Is that true?

i only gained about 4lb in each of my pregnancies. and my dd's were 6lb 15oz, and 9lb (born at 40weeks and 39weeks). but i had bad morning sickness with both. i was losing weight and i didnt look pregnant till around the 7month mark, which really upset as i didnt get that pregnancy attention from strangers. i'm hoping that if iever fall pregnant again that i will not suffer morning sickness and will feel able to indulge in lots of yummy foods and gain weight and look pregnant.

sc - don't worry - I gained about 3 stone (went up to about 12.5 from 9.5) and eventually lost all of it. Breastfeeding really helped to get the weight off, and I did a lot of walking in the pram around and around and around the streets!

I've eaten about 5 tonnes of chocolate during this pregnancy, and my bum &thighs have become moon-like (i.e. big, round and covered in cellulite craters) as a result

My french obstetrician asked me if I'd been having parties because I had gained a stone at 20 weeks! - no, just eating loads of rice pud, i replied. He said to be aware that I shouldn't gain too much early on - but here, women are often thin as a rake and obsessed about dieting anyway - I don't want to be like that!

I've been told that a gain of 12-15 kg is about average for my height - 5'7"

I try and eat raisins instead of choccy when I need a sweet fix, but still stuffing my face every now and then. I'm not too worried about gaining weight at the mo, too much other stuff going on.

good low-fat replacement for milkshakes with ice cream - yoghurt (coconut flavour is nice), fruit juice and a banana whizzed up for brekky - lovely.

bzhmum - what is that in pounds as i too am 5 ft 7 and am intrigued as to what i should weigh as I have gained 20 pounds already and am only 23 weeks!!! I was so mortified and all you ladies have actually made me feel more normal but that gaining a stone business is absolute boolocks i am afriad and depending on your pre pregnancy BMI you should gain a lot more than that. If you are underweight before conception then you should gain a bit more and if you are overweight a bit less but a couple of stone if you are of normal weight is what the magazines reccommend and I bthink to be honest those mags are a little bit gaga as they suggest eating only fruit, veg an dbloody brown rice and fish etc and workimng out every day to pregnancy yoga and the likes so for real women i think 2 stoine is actually quite hard! My friend gained 5 stone and is now smaller (her child is now 1 years old) than her pre-pregnnacy size so I wouldn't worry too much!

My breatsa rea up to a G cup already and I was a C pre-pregnnacy so i am hoping that they are carrying some of the weight but judging by my grotesque cellulite and huge arse i'm thinking those chicken nugget and chip cravings are going on my hips but lifes too short for brown rice and lettuce....
