Am really struggling to eat anything that isnt sweet at the moment. It's par for the course in the early days for me, and I've done pretty well so far this pg at overcoming it. But I'm 30 weeks now and it's worse than ever. Am really fed up and eating a totally crap diet. Anyone else?

I lived off ready meals when pregnant with dd2 so can't help really - I was always too tired to do anything other than basic food cooking for dd1.

If you have a sweet tooth just try and have lots of healthy sweet things - fruit or at least the fruit /cereal bars. I was really into the Muller yogurts - a prtion of fruit in every pot! Made me feel heaps better!!

Thanks sundew. I had a ready meal phase earlier on in pg but now feel sick at the thought. Strange to look back on ready meals as a utopia of healthy eating....

I virtually lived off chocolate when pg with ds - oddly couldn't even smell chocolate when pg with dd! With ds, I also couldn't stomach any raw fruit or veg (and couldn't for a long time post-partum) or wasn't keen on meat. My diet was crappier than when I was a student living away from home for the first time.

Sorry, that wasn't much help, but you're definitely not alone!

Thanks Upsince - I get most of my calories from chocolate it has to be said.

An epiphany today - I have virtually no sense of taste because I've got a cold, so I hope that's what's been causing the extreme aversions.

ALL I want is cake, desserts, scones, hot Milo (choc malt drink), toast w jam and other sweet things. For lunch today I pushed around my roast lamb, ate less than half, but gobbled up my fruit crumble dessert. If I wasn't with DH, would have ordered 2 desserts and not bothered with a main. Am trying to control myself, but v difficult. Am a bit worried that baby will turn out to be a sugar monster (apparently they quite like what you eat when pregnant, but as am a first timer, have no idea if this is the case)

You are not alone!!

I was like this with my first pregnancy. I craved milk, chocolate and any type of pudding/biscuits/cake from start to finish, and while breastfeeding.

With my second it was the complete opposite. I just wanted bread, crisps and curries

Pregnancy, eh?

More of us like this. MrsM, this is my third pg and they've all been like this to some extent. You had a boy first and then a girl, didn't you? If so, you were the wrong way round according to the old wives.

Unfortunately, just tested ++ for glucose at antenatal, so may have to do another glucose tolerance test (first one was okay but only two weeks ago) Sigh/weep. I shall be stuffed if I have GD; shan't be able to eat anything.

So ladies, as first time PG myself, can I ask those that have had these strange food fads during previous PGs, did it have any adverse effects on your little ones?

I have tried to be healthy (haven't suffered any real aversions to anything, other than my DHs lovely vegetable soup - normally I love it), but do feel that I am eating more chocolate and biscuits than I normally would.

So does it cause problems or should we just go with what our bods are telling us? I do take Pregnacare and Osteocare aswell to make sure I'm getting enough of everything, but I still worry because MWs really push the healthy eating thing...

xxx

It's impossible to know whether it's affected a baby or not really because you don't know what they'd be like if you didn't do it.

If your diet is broadly healthy, I really wouldn't worry about extra chocolate etc. Most people find they need this. If you can do it in moderation alongside a healthy diet, you're doing a hell of a lot better than I have ever managed.
