Natural Ways to Induce Labour

I know, I know, I should just be patient and let nature take its course but am 39 wks and desperate to have DC.

  • I don't want sex
  • I won't eat a curry (urgh, poor midwife)

Does Rasp Leaf tea work?
Does going up stairs sideways work?

Has anyone done anything in the past that they think really works?

Got any friends with a newborn baby? Spend some time holding a new born and it might make your uterus contract.

This could be an old wives tale, but it has to be worth a go (and your friends could probably do with an hour off to wash their hair/get dressed for the first time in 3 days etc)

try a breast pump??? positive it worked with dc1

i'm 38wks with dc3 and baby is really big (dc2 was 10lb 8oz) and i'm desperate to get baby out.

bought some clary sage today but i'm not sure what to do with it...think its a bit early but feel that the baby is 'done' and could really do with coming out

what about getting down and cleaning the skirting boards?

MrsOCD · 26/02/2009 18:57

10 8 - wow. I wouldnt know what to do with clary sage. Sure someone clever on here does.
Toss up between cleaning skirting boards or watching Stenders. Think the latter will win. Haven't got breast pump but heard nipple stimulation is another thing to try. Must remmeber to close curtains before twiddling (whilst watching Stenders!)

In my case with DS2, walking four miles a day and lugging toddler around (including up and down stairs with a buggy) helped Raspberry leaf tea will help tone your uterus but wont kickstart labour (though may make it shorter when it does start - I took RLT and second labour was about 3 hours to baby in arms from contractions kicking in properly).

If your body is ready to go, walking lots will help encourage bubs down as will doing hip circles on an exercise ball. Also have friends who have sworn by reflexology and accupuncture to help them kickstart labour - may be worth thinking about.

I tried EVERYTHING with DS1 (except accupuncture/reflexology as didnt know about the benefits then - and refused to try cod liver oil as just sounded bleurgh) and ended up being induced at 42 weeks - so baby will only come when he/she is ready to. With DS2 didnt try anything and he came just over a week early.

Mrs OCD - you can try a few drops of clary sage in the bath. Didnt do anything for me with DS1 but hope it works for you.

Clary sage: in the bath, sniff it from the bottle, burn in an oil burner, rub (with some body lotion) into your tum. It gave be wicked BH. It's mostly recommended if you are in early labour or if your contractions go off a bit.

Raspberry leaf: tones the uterus, it doesn't make you go into labour.

Walking up the stairs sideways: is supposed to help get the head down.

Lots of people recommend nipple stimulation. DIY or using a breast pump.

Sex defo worked for me, a good pokey position is recommended
