Is this normal or do I need to see/speak to someone?

I am 19+5 and started with a migraine on Tuesday morning, I felt awful last night and could barely see as I had some of those flashing lights that I sometimes get with migraines. The flashing light lasted for nearly 2 hours and I was sick twice just after they had gone.

DH sent me to bed early to get some sleep and he dealt with DD. He also got up to her in the night as she woke twice which is very unusual for her.

I have got up this morning and taken 2 paracetamol and I have been sick again, I have given DD her breakfast and luckily she is happy watching ceebeebies

I feel shaky, sick, my hands and neck and one side of my face has all gone numb, I can see the flashing lights starting again in the corner of my eyes.

I know it is normal to have more or more severe headaches/migraines when PG but I have NEVER had one as bad as this.

No experience but I would CERTAINLY phone your midwife - better to be safe than sorry.

No experience here either but agree you should phone your midwife. Anything unusual is worth getting checked out.

mrsgboring · 25/02/2009 09:09

Could just be a bad bad migraine but you do need to get it checked.

I don't have a number for my MW and the ward don't deal with anyone under 25 weeks pg (I have asked ward before due to lots of bleeding) I might ring and see if I can speak to my GP though.

the ward should give you the number for the midwives service. You may not speak to your own midwife but the oncall midwife would speak to you/call you back.

If you don't get any joy, ie within the next 20 mins call your gp and get booked in this morning as an emergency. Failing that, get thee to your local walk in centre.
At the very least you need your blood pressure checked today.

Thanks everyone, am on phone to ward now.

Well done for phoning, I hope you get some reassurance and feel better soon xx

I have phoned my GP now as the MW at the ward was less then helpful and quite rude to me. GP is ringing me back as soon as she get a chance to speak to me.

your GP surgery should have a triage nurse who could deal with you, I suffer from head aches and migraines too but if its that bad its worth getting checked out. Hope you feel better soon x

Idrankthechristmasspirits · 25/02/2009 09:40

Glad your gp is being helpful. at the rude midwife.

insertwittynicknameHERE · 25/02/2009 09:52

It is very unusual as all of the MW I have encountered here in my local area have always been lovely and very very helpful. She was probably just having a bad morning.

I am still waiting for my gp to ring me, but I know they are very busy so will probably be a while yet.

Thanks everyone.

I used to get a lot of migraines when I was pregnant. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water as dehydration makes it worse.

My consultant insisted that I get my blood pressure checked every time fortunately my doctors were very sympathetic and always found time to do it.

insertwittynicknameHERE · 25/02/2009 19:01

The receptionist at the gp's rang me back and said my gp wanted me to go in just to have a check.

BP is fine, baby's HB is fine (quite shocked that she checked TBH) nothing else wrong as far as she can tell. I have had a bit of a bad cough and she checked my chest, everything sounds fine luckily.

She gave me some co-codomols (sp?) for the migraine but I haven't taken any as it seems to be getting better and I am able to manage it now with the paracetamols.
