Im 33+2, and excited Im going to be a mummy.

However, im upset. Ive been ill this whole pregnancy and its really wearing me down now.

1st I had 23 weeks of 24 hr morning sickness, then my exzema(sp?) has been totally out of control, then I got a frozen shoulder, now im anemic and the midwife wants me to be tested for diabetes. Im actually sick of it all.

Ive refused to take iron tablets as they made me really really sick, if I go for the test for diabetes I have to fast for 12 hours or something which is going to make me really ill (I eat every few hours even through night)and basically im just totally pissed off.

Me and dh are close to falling out as I wanted a HB and the midwife team would have supported it...if he did, but he wont as he is worried something will go wrong, and to bee fair he wants me near drugs as I dont cope with pain well. BUt if I have this diabetes thing I think I read i have ti be induced and monitered and cant have a water birth and ARRRRGGGGGGG.

Basically im seriously stressed/tired/confused fed up of work and uni and everyting in my life seems to tally out of control!!!

Im dont know what to do, any suggestions would help. I know it all sounds like self pity but im a woman on the edge here!

Thanks

Sounds like you're having a miserable time of it

I was told it was OK to use a heatpad on my back whilst pregnant - check with your GP but it should be fine on your shoulder (I think the risk is if too much heat gets to the baby - so if you stuck it on your bump it wouldn't be so good...)

2nd the vote for Spatone/Floradix. Much kinder on your system and, for a lot of women, much more effective. Have they told you what your readings actually are? Having a low HB level in isolation (assuming its not extremely low) is normal during pregnancy - having a low HB in addition to a low Packed Cell or Mean Corpuscular Volume is a bit more concerning (I saw a really good description of why this was - I'll try and dig it out if you're interested).

Re. the diabetes test and things - it would be worth sitting down with them and talking through what differences they'd like to make to your care should it come back +ve. They may make recommendations on the back of the result, but they are recommendations not commands - it is still your choice how and where you give birth. If you decide that actually, even if it came back positive, your interpretation of the risks meant that you'd feel more confident at home in a pool with intermitent monitoring (ie you wouldn't do anything different regardless of the result) then arguably there is no point in having the test. I'm not saying thats what you should do, but it is an option you have.

Has your husband read any of the info about homebirth or talked to any HB dads? It took me till about 35 weeks to persuade my DH that it might be a good idea, but I got there in the end (even though DD was breech). If he hasn't seen them already, the www.homebirth.org.uk site and the homebirthUK mailgroup are both very informative. You might also want to try and find a local home birth support group - talking to other dads that have been there and done that is often helpful (your local NCT or IM would be a good place to start). wrt pain relief, my MW commented that whilst she always had G&A in the car, she reckoned it only came in for a birth in

Hi all,

Thank you all very much for taking the time to reply.

I think my biggest issue is I feel pushed around but im not really up for a fight at the moment. I think I shall just follow medical advice and try and make the best of it all.

Off to ante natal classes now, the support is helping so thanks again.
