Hello.

I have acquired very kindly through MN the "Effective Home Birth Preparation" Hypnobirthing CD by Maggie Howell.

Unfortunatley she didnt have the guide with it.

Just wondered if anyone had the guide book/instructions that they could send me a copy of pleease? Or even just message me the instructions?

Thanks in advance!

Oo I do, I think. I'll go and find it...

I'm feeling very smug that having spent the weekend organising our dump of a house, I actually know where to look!

It's a little booklet. I'll type the 'Getting the maximum benefit from your CD' bit...

Might have to do a little bit at a time, 'cause I'm (a-hem) supervising bathtime at the moment...

  1. Listen to the CD as often as possible, esp. from 35 weeks onwards. If you can take the time to listen to it every day, the benefits will be even stronger.
  1. Listen to the CD at a time when you would not normall y be going to sleep e.g. first thing in the morning, after work, during the afternoon etc. If you do fall asleep, then you are doing fine! It is a great sign that your body and mind are truly letting go and relaxing.
  1. Whenever possible, listen to the CD without headphones - that way your baby is also listening to the voice and the music. The baby will then respond very well to the relaxing birth music during the birth as well as to the post natal recovery CD.

3 down, 4 to go...

apols for typos

  1. Suggest that your birth partner listen to the CD a few times. Not only will tthey be more relaxed but it will give them ideas on how to help you during the birthing. If you knokw the midwife who will be with you, then suggest that she listen to it as well.
  1. Listen to the CD once in a "concious state" and make a note of any particular phrases, images, visualisation that you particularly like. Kepp these with your birth notes/birth plan so your birth partner/midwife can use these images during the birth to reinforce the suggetions and triggers.
  1. Practice using the comfort management dial during your pregnancy - either when you have any aches or pains or by practicing by holding an ice cube to your wrists, behind your ears of by pinching your inner thigh. Start by focusing on your breathing and relaxing your body, then apply pressure (your birth partner can do this for you), and then use your imagination to trun down the sensations.
  1. Having aromatherapy oils buring every time you listen to the CD, and then buring them throughtout your labour will make the use of oils even more [hmm - think this is a typo in the booklet - stops here!]

[and then carries straight on, but i think this is supposed to by point 8..]

  1. There is no need to listen to the CD dureing labour. However, many mums like to put it on at the bery beginning as a gentle way to go into a deeply relzed state. Once you are in more serious labour, then swithc to the relacing birth must CD.

that last sentence should be '... then switch to the relaxing birth music CD'.

My typing is a bit dodgy - i hope the rest makes sense!

The booklet goes on to cover stuff about labour and homebirth (benefits etc). If I get a chance, I'll scan it for you.

But it looks like stuff you probably know already if you're going for a homebirth.

I only managed to listen to it a couple of times before my homebirth last time (even that helped a bit though, I think). I hope to manage it a bit more this time (due in July).

Hope you find it helpful!

Right - scanned in and I've just sent it to your email. Let me know if it doesn't arrive and I'll try again.

Hope it works for you...
