can anyone tell me how to explain to my 6 yr old dd where babies come from and how they get out! books i've seen seem too graphic! i would like to be a grandma one day and don't want to put her off!

My niece asked me this the other day I have to admit I copped out a bit. She's only 5, so I just told her that when adults love each other very much, at night when they go to bed, they give each other a special kiss and a cuddle and if the "Baby Stork" thinks that they love each other enough, he will bring them a baby how ideal!

She seemed happy with it, I wasn't too red after finishing, and I think it's just enough information for someone so young.

I remember really liking "Where Did I Come From?" when I was a child:

I don't have a problem with explaining to a child any age how the baby gets out. My daughter is only 3 but I'll happily explain it nearer the due date.

How the baby got there in the first place is a bit more tricky, but I have heard plenty of people say that they are a bit older before they ask about this anyway. Has she actually asked how it got there?
