I'm 19+3 pg with DC3. It's beena pretty rough pg with lots of morning sickness and huge energy loss.

DH and I have also been under immense stress for last 3 months due to botched building work on our house.

Morning sickness just about gone now, but I have the mother of all colds. Snotty nose, v sore throat, painful chest. I also had a double sty in my eye last week (classic case of run down immune system)

Lovely friend due to come down on Fri with her DH, DS (6) and baby DS (4 months). Baby DS has chickenpox.

My questions are:

  1. I've had chickenpox, but am wondering whether I can get shingels from baby as my immune system is weak at the moment trying to fight off this cold?
  1. If I do catch shingles then it'd be pretty bad as I presume I wouldn't be able to take anything for it?
  1. Am I being mad trying to host them all weekend?
  1. Or am I being a wimp and letting my imagination run away with me?

Thank you lovely ladies. xx

Flight - he's crying, after his vaccinations yesterday and I can't settle him today. Poor little boy.

Hi there, I think that as a mummy, there are not a lot of occasions where you can put yourself first, but while you are pregnant, you sometimes need to - for sake of baby and your health (esp if you have other dc to look after). Sounds like you're having a busy time - IMO I would try to avoid any situations which could cause problems or worries. I suffered a lot from sickness while preg and it makes you feel really run down.Plus you may end up passing cold to friend or her dc. Best to arrange when you are all much better. Try to give yourself a wee rest. Take care.

Oh poor mite, hope he is better soon.

Have got to have my W's injections soon and dreading it!

Hi HeyThereGeorgieGirl! I'm fine, hope your new builders get you all sorted for July! What a nightmare that all sounds! Glad you are postponing the visit, cp second time around can be nasty. One friend got a sort of cp that affected her joints and has never been able to do aerobics since and the other got post viral fatigue which lasted for ages.

Have you had your 20 week scan yet? Mine's coming up and I'm hoping (as well as everything being OK!) that the baby isn't upside down again as the other two scans (dating & NT) it was standing on it's head so I'm hoping this time it will be the right way up!

Hope you feel better soon and that you get to have a great time with your friends when you're all recovered!

Hi

Dont know if this helps, but I have had chicken pox twice... second time was hardly anything though. But just thought I would mention it, because it can happen, just quite rare.

Sunflower100 · 18/02/2009 10:57

I would definitely postpone. CP is very contagious and you don't want dh or dc to get it right now. And its not worth the risk to yourself. Put yourself first.

magnummum · 18/02/2009 13:35

Even setting aside the issue of CP, if you're as run down as all that sounds like you need a weekend of TLC not running round after guests who include a 6 year old and a baby. You (and they) will have a much nicer time together when you're all fit and rested.

iwantitnow · 18/02/2009 13:47

I've had chickenpox twice, second time when I was 30 and it was very nasty.

Lotster · 18/02/2009 14:17

Just to add my two penneth, sounds like you have plenty on your plate without accepting three guests in to your house when you're not fighting fit. You'll tell yourself you'll take it easy, but will probably find yourself rushing round after them.

Also - Chicken pox and shingles are from the same varicalla virus, you could catch either, I know someone who has had the pox three times. It's not pretty as an adult either.

I was exposed to chicken pox last pregnancy, resulting in me having to have large amounts of donor platelets/globulin injected in my bum, it hurt and really isn't worth the risk!

Take it easy on yourself!

Lotster · 18/02/2009 14:17

p.s. the injections don't stop the pox, just help you fight it.
