'Unusual' blood test result at 38 weeks - does anyone know what is tested for?

I was sent to the hospital today for monitoring after a high BP reading at my GP surgery.

Foetal heart, urine and BP were all fine at hospital and I was sent home.

Later received a phone call to tell me that one of the tests that they had done on my blood - I think they said a 'U' value / test - had an abnormal result. I have been asked to go back into the hospital tomorrow for more monitoring / tests.

Does anyone have any idea what is tested for at this stage, and what I may be up against?

Many thanks.

It sounds like urate, or uric acid - it's one of the tests they do to keep an eye out for pre-eclampsia but can be high for other reasons and in isolation is nothing to worry about if your trace and blood pressure were OK today.

The exact same thing happened to me at around 38 weeks - my BP was high at the GP's as I'd just been rammed into by white-van-man. Much as I tried to explain, it was off to the hospital for me! DD arrived at 42 weeks, perfectly healthy....

Good luck tomorrow - they'll probably just do the blood test and urine again just to be on the safe side.
