Strong stomach cramps - Do I need to be worried?

I am nearly 31 weeks. Was sick etc this morning and although that is not unusal for me it hurt a lot more than usual and was simply bringing up bile as I hadn't been able to eat. I managed to eat a late lunch which did help but my stomach still really hurts. It is going from being a mild ache, to really sore, back to mild again. So sort of on and off but never 100% goes away in between.

Don't think they can be BH as my bump would go hard wouldn't it? It isn't at all and isn't really a surface pain iyswim.

Should I be worried? DH wants me to go and get checked but don't really know where? Don't fancy waiting around in A+E for hours on my own - he will need to stay with DD and all family went away this morning!

Haven't thown up the lunch I ate so think I needed it but that was a good couple of hours ago and my tummy just really hurts .

Any opinions would be great. Thanks

Whereabouts does it hurt? It could be a bug, or it might be something else.

For instance strong pain on top of the bump can be an indication of pre eclampsia especially if you have other symptoms, like raised BP, headaches etc.

Is it possible you have pulled a muscle? Picking up other children.

Could it be a UTI infection?

soon2befamilyof4 · 15/02/2009 16:32

I have lots of symptoms of PE but I went to the GP last week and BP and urine was fine so she said I don't have it. I did have some blood tests done on friday though and my urine sample was sent off.

It is more in the middle of my bump I guess, although TBH it is quite hard to tell, although I know that sounds silly but I am finding it hard to work out exactly where the pain is.

No, definatly not a pulled muscle, not that sort of pain. Although I do have to cart my DD round a lot.

Whats a UTI [blush}

I guess UTI is a urine infection?

Do you have a number to call on the front of your notes for the ante-natal assessment ward at the hospital? You can talk to a midwife and they'll tell you whether you need to go in.

mummy2joshuarileyandbump · 15/02/2009 16:36

its a water infection basically stands for urinary tract infection. I would make an appointment to see ur GP just to be on the safe side

PHone the labour ward, they will advise you. If they think you need to come in, they will want you to go to the maternity unit, so you won't have to hang around in A&E.
It does sound possible that you could be starting labour, but if you are nearly 31 weeks that's not too bad. Best of luck, hope it's something harmless, which it may well be.

I am wondering about food poisoning? I was a bit concerned about DHs cooking last night but asked mumsnet (in due april group) and the general thought was that I was worrying over nothing so I had forgotten about it until now.

I was thinking about ringing the labour ward. I am just worried because last time, although I eventually got some advice and got told to come in, they were quite rude and a bit "why you phoning here?" type thing. Although it was a weekday evening and I think they were a bit annoyed that I didn't see GP in the daytime, but it was just that I wasn't worried until later on that evening.

I have had the runs too for the last few days, but nothing that concerned me particually, no pain or anything just needed to go fairly quickly and very runny (Sorry if TMI)

soon2be, phone the midwifery triage number - you're meant to deal with them at this point instead of your GP anyway, technically (although I actually prefer my GP!). They'll be able to advise you / request that you go in for a quick check if they think that you need it. It'll be quicker than A&E even if you do have to go in.

BoffinMum · 15/02/2009 17:31

soon2be, sounds like me this morning. Why not pop in for a wee test and a bit of monitoring?? It put my mind at rest.

soon2befamilyof4 · 15/02/2009 17:40

I have phoned and they have asked me to come in. Just REALLY hope I don't need bloods done as I am very needle phobic and usually have my mum there with me and she really really helps. I don't know if I could do it on my own. I usually need pinning down! .

Well I will update you all when I get back but knowing what it was like last time I will be waiting around for hours on end.

This is the sort of time I wish I was into reading books!

soon2be, I doubt they will bother with needles, but if they do, look away and do some deep breathing and tell yourself it is great the NHS do all this for free, and care about you enough to test for things. positive things like that.

soon2befamilyof4 · 15/02/2009 17:48

Just waiting for DH to take DD for a walk in the buggy, so she doesn't notice me going and then I am off

Good luck xx

I am home. Possibly food posioning. They did tests etc and I had a high temp etc too. They even did and internal to check I wasn't going into labour but said all was ok from what HE could see. Took a swap to check for infection etc.

The consultant told me he was going to keep me in but then somebody else came and said to send me home. I could hear them arguing outside about it. Think it was just that there were no beds!

They also wanted to give me blood tests but I got out of it because I only had some done on friday and was tested for similar things.

Anyway, got midwife tomorrow so will talk to her as well.

Sorry to be breif but very tired and just want to go to bed.
