I'm pregnant with twins and a local Mum who also has twins keeps saying things like, "I really don't envy you". And, "You poor thing". She's not saying it in a supportive way and it's really beginning to get on my nerves. It's like the hidden message is, I've been there and know what you've got in store....

What can I say to shut her up?

twocutedarlings · 13/02/2009 21:52

yes and congrats on the twin too double the fun!! double the love !! IMO

Longtalljosie · 14/02/2009 21:54

How about - "oh don't worry, we're selling one of them on the internet". Must be done with a totally straight face though, so she's left wondering...

Gemzooks · 14/02/2009 22:02

you could beat her at her own passive aggressive game, thus: 'yes, I'm sure we will need loads of help. Do you have any clothes? Do you think you might be able to be on call to advise me just after the birth? I do think it's so nice when people pop round with a casserole. Are you interested in a babysitting rota and shall we swap numbers, I've got SO much I want to ask you..'

nickschick · 14/02/2009 22:04

I'd say well i'll get twice as much child benefit as you ........besides theres 2 in my tummy how many in yours???? your stretchmarks will be horrendous ....

nickschick · 14/02/2009 22:05

ohhh i misread she has twins .......id go with feck off fish face then....

ChocFudgeCake · 14/02/2009 22:12

"I'm sorry you are so bitter I hope you can get some support, it's not too late" If you pray you can add "I'll pray for you" And then you do it, because it sounds like this poor woman needs prayers.

ChocFudgeCake · 14/02/2009 22:13

Gemzooks, your is great.

ChocFudgeCake · 14/02/2009 22:16

"yours" I meant

Qally · 14/02/2009 22:50

"I'm not worried. I think being a pain in the arse is genetic, you see."

ranirani · 14/02/2009 22:59

Thumbs up, helsy, I was just thinking of something like that !

Qally · 14/02/2009 23:02

Helsy - just read up and that's definitely brilliant. (And to be fair, might even be true. Would explain a lot.)

SnowlightMcKenzie · 14/02/2009 23:12

Look very very worried and say:

'Oh dear, how will I choose which one to give up for adoption?'

samsonara · 14/02/2009 23:26

Look shocked when she says that and say

"Is that the type of thing people said to you? How awful! Aren't some people negative, you poor thing! All my family and friends say things like, wow that is lovely, double the love and cuddles to look forward too! We know it won't be plain sailing but who ever said babies, even 1 was easy?,"

smile, got to go, see you and flick your hair back and walk way..

SnowlightMcKenzie · 15/02/2009 00:10

Say,

'I really hope it doesn't change me and turn me into a twin bore, going on and on and on and on about how hard it is'!

Grin
ThumbLoveWitch · 15/02/2009 00:21

how about
"oh I've always wanted twins, I'm really excited that I'm getting my wish - but I'm so sorry you seem to have such trouble coping with yours!"
