God I'm so sick I can't even swallow my own saliva.

I am sick of all day morning sickness - if I'm lucky I'm actually sick in the morning as then I feel ok for a hour or so and can eat breakfast. Mostly it's crippling nausea and retching all day long. Can't cook dinner at all, dd's living off crap in a tin and snacks and even that makes me retch. My saliva tastes vile and metallic and there is so much of it, swallowing it all the time makes me feel worse so I'm now having to spit into a tissue but can hardly drink so aware that I need to be careful about dehydration. Just want someone to come and look after the dd's so I can go to bed.

OK, HBOB, you need to get to your GP, or call the surgery, as you might have hyperemesis.
You sound like you're panicking, but don't, as there are safe meds which will reduce the nausea and vomiting.
How many times a day are you being sick?

Seeline · 12/02/2009 16:16

Porr you - I know just how you feel. I was like it with pg1 - it's horrible. When I started in pg2, I knew I couldn't go the same way with DS(just 2) to look after. I went to the GP's and they gave me some wonderful meds. I was still sick a few times, but it got rid of the constant nausea, and compared to the first time where I was sick 10-12 times a day, all day (and night!) it was like a miracle. Go to the docs.

I wish I could say I was being sick as I know so many people have it so much worse. I'm sick once every morning and then for the rest of the day it's continuous retching but only bringing up saliva (sorry TMI) I just know the GP would laugh me out the surgery if I told them I'm not even being sick. With my other 2 pregnancies I had periods of intense sickness and then I would throw up but also had a fewv hours a day when it was ok and I felt fine. This is just horrible, dd1 has constipation and is letting out little bits of poo every hour or so and needs help wiping. Dd2 is just starting to potty train so it's puddles a plenty. My silly fault for thinking I could cope with a third child I guess.

honestly - it's pretty much the only way.
They're not an absolute cure - like seeline said, she (and I) was still sick a few times, but you can plan your day around taking the tablets, knowing you've got some coverage/relief for when you're cooking/in public/travelling etc, and you get a window of opportunity to get some food and fluids into you

minouminou · 12/02/2009 16:22

You're retching and bringing nothing up because you're not ingesting anything
get to that GP, woman! you ARE being sick, but there's nothing to be sick with, IYSWIM

Just feeling sick all the time is exhausting, especially when you can't avoid nasty situations like you get with other LO's. If it is now having an impact on your eating/drinking, I think the GP would be sympathetic. It's worth a try!

I was like this in both my pregnacies- sick literally hundreds of times a day and the weight fell off me. I couldn't even keep water down. I got medicated the second time though as i was so dehydrated that they were going to hosptalise me. It really helped. See your Doc.

Hope you feel better soon x

How many weeks are you? I think it can be worse retching, I used to feel a bit of relief after I'd actually been sick.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 12/02/2009 16:25

thankyou, I'll try to get to see my GP tomorrow.

Oh poor you. Doc eventually put me on Zofran which was wonderful, it really helped. Not a good time is it.

minouminou · 12/02/2009 16:29

It is worse retching, as it hurts your gut and your throat, and it's TIRING.
Give the surgery a bell now, and let them know what you're going through, if you're lucky, your GP might just do you a prescription and leave it at reception - mine did both PGs, mainly because i'd've been sick all over the surgery if i'd stayed in there too long!

Tiredmumno1 · 12/02/2009 19:16

I remember wearing wrist pressure bands on my 2nd pregnancy cos i was constantly feeling, they did work sometimes which was a good thing.

minouminou · 13/02/2009 14:25

how ya feeling today, HBOB?

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/02/2009 16:47

weirdly - a bit better today, I think because I have discovered that chewing gum constantly helps with the saliva thing and without all of the saliva (sorry, gross I know) I have been retching less. I wouldn't say I feel great and still vomited first thing but have at least been able to eat a bit today. Thanks for thinking of me minimou

HBOB - Have you tried sipping on really cold water all the time. I found that it really helped. I'm 20 weeks pg now - so more or less over the sickness stage. But if I put a glass of icey water somewhere, where I could reach it and just sipped all day long - it really made a difference.

By the way - don't mean to scare you - but this is my third pregnancy too - and I was much sicker this time. And it turned out to be twins.
