I have pcos but do ovulate. I also take Metformin twice a day. Just wondered if anyone here with confirmed pcos concevied without help and if you did have help what it was.

Hi - I had polycystic ovaries but was not diagnosed with PCOS as such. I didn't have periods. I went on a low GI diet to regulate blood sugar highs and lows which I read affect hormones and IIRC it took about 3 months for periods to return (and they were regular) and I conceived without any medical help. Although I chose the diet in order to regulate blood sugar, i did lose a couple of stones which may have also had an effect? I know this situation is not exactly what you asked for in your OP, but thought it might be useful to know. Hope more experienced MNetters can advise you better.

I have PCOS although all my symptoms disappeared around eight years ago when I lost 1/2 stone at the specialists recommendation. Since then I've gone from having a face full of acne and periods every three months or so to a lovely clear complexion and a regular 30 day cycle.

I've had no problems conceiving both times in the past four years, in fact within a month but scans show the cysts are still there. Very strange. (and very lucky)

hi, I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin, once the dose was correct I managed to conceive within 3 months and now have DD2. I did lose a load of weight (2 stone)once the dose of Metformin was correct.

Hi - I was diagnosed with pcos after 18 months of no periods when I came off the pill. I have conceived naturally on 3 occasions by tracking all aspects of my cycle very closely. My cycles are long (up to 45 days) but by monitoring the changes in my body I became quite good at pinpointing my ovulation 'window' and timing sex just right! Good Luck

My friend has PCOS and no periods at all. She was told by specialist that the only way she would conceive was through IVF. She had acupuncture, followed really healthy diet, cut out alcohol/caffeine and got pregnant three months later.

I have PCOS - no periods and a few minor other symptoms but no issues with weight. Dd now 2.5 conceived after 3 cycles of 50mg Clomid. Now pregnant with twins after 6 cycles of ever increasing dosage of Clomid, ovarian drilling, laparoscopy etc. Different NHS trust second time round and in my experience there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what treatment/dosage you get! Having said that there are so many positive stories on here about people conceiving (with and without help). Good luck with it all (have you checked out Verity - website all about PCOS with really good forums and advice too?)

I have PCOS and am fairly large due to the problems it caused. I went to doctors to get some help and the fertility specialist told me to go away and come back when I had lost 6 stones!! He also said that even then given my age (35) and medical history that it was highly unlikely that I would concieve. A bit harsh and totally over the top I felt. Anyway I did two things 1) I went back my doctors and told a little white lie, I said the fertility man had suggested dieting and taking Metformin. 2) I contacted the adoption centre in my local council. Anyway in six months I lost 2 3/4 stones using Metformin and Orlistat (weight loss drug) and then I got pregnant. I so wanted to go back to the fertility man and say '6 stone' that was harsh - but I didn't as I am v v happy to be having a baby at all. I am also willing to adopt in the future and have left my details on file.

Hi i have pcos, i wasn't diagnosed until i had an internal scan whilst having cervical erosion treated. I already had dd1 & dd2, was told it was v.v.unlikely i'd have anymore as i had multiple cycsts on both ovaries but have had dd3 and dd4 13 months apart.

I have PCOS and had treatment to conceive DS, although my endocrinologist told me that metformin is actually very effective in helping women with PCOS get pregnant. She recommended a dose of 850mg 3 times a day.

However, I also had something called ovarian drilling, which essentially (according to my gynae) is exactly how it sounds! Small holes were drilled in my ovaries. The following cycle I was pregnant, after 2 years of trying.

Second, third and fourth time around I got pregnant without any treatment at all, although only the fourth pregnancy went beyond 12 weeks. I'm now 27 weeks. Miscarriage is more common in women with PCOS, and my consultant recommended continuing with metformin during my pregnancy as this reduces the risk. It is also supposed to help reduce the risk of gestational diabetes too, although I did develop it this time. Again, this is more likely in women with PCOS.

I have also had 2 m/c which was subsequently put down to my pcos.

Hello, positive story here. THink everyone is different but here is my story..

Am now 31. PCOS diagnosed aged 20, had years of no periods etc. Realised any artifical hormones like the pill made it worse as body took so long to recover when i came off them. So now wont touch at all, including hormone coils etc.

Over the years symptoms got worse (everything except weight gain-was lucky). Saw a fab consultant who gave me metformin 850mg x2daily, antibioitics for my acne and cream for my facial hair. Also worked very hard at good diet and exercise.

2 yrs of metformin nnd I got regular (every 30 to 40day) cycles, was very aware of my body so knew when I was ovulating.

Got pregnant on first try as a result. Worried non stop about higher miscarriage risk but managed to make it stick, and Im due in 4.5wks! Despite

Good luck....
