Emma Jane ones are good

Anita Maternity are ace, they do an underwired one too, which if you are large of nork like me (40FF in 1st 6mo) is ESSENTIAL and shouldn't cause any probs unless it doesn't fit properly. This US site is absolutely fab, they have the biggest selection in the world and their customer service is tip-top. (and no, I'm not on commission - just in Zambia so have to buy everything online). Bravado are nice and soft cotton, very good to sleep in, sports-bra style. Medela underwires have a serious 50s-sweater-girl effect, very lightening but perhaps not for days when you're feeling less than glamourous....
These are the 3 that I've used for BF my 2 and can't fault them, tried Royce but they were hit and miss, and didn't really have enough support.

Just wanted to agree really - the ones I have seen looking floppy, old-ladyish and generally very unattractive. I hear Hotmilk ones are good and pretty but I'm not sure I can afford to splash out that much on a bra, as if breastfeeding works out, I will probably need quite a few.

Hot Milk! pricey but worth it and figleaves had them on offer a few weeks back. bought two for myself as maternity bras (expecting dc2 so got a good idea of post baby bf size) and two for friend who has new baby and dead pleased. good support and shape as most others I have tried make my tits look like fried eggs.

Happymum2be · 12/02/2009 11:11

should you wear non-underwired nursing bras as well, or does it just depend on what you find more comfortable?

JLo2 · 12/02/2009 14:02

I'm not sure I would describe them as particularly pretty, but I can 100% recommend the Bravado bras. They are supportive and very comfortable and easy to use one handed when breastfeeding. They are also good for sleeping in, which becomes important when you need to wear breast pads at night to stop your bed from getting soaked!! They are also very forgiving in the changing size of your breasts while you are establishing feeding.
To be honest as ZamMummy says it depends on your size as to what will work for you. Normally it is recommended that you don't have underwired as it restricts your milk ducts, but obviously it is sometimes essential

have to disagree, did not like bravado at all. they are so unsupportive, and unattaractive. Looked great on the screen of laptop but in reality , had to give them back...
I got 3 from Mothercare to start with. My due date is tomorrow, and then after BF is established and I know my right size , not a guess work, will probably go with Hotmilk; they are pricey but look so yummy and after of 9 months of being PG you want to look nice; do they sell them in any store? I would rather try them on to make sure than buying on line because sizing can be a problem from my experinece

mumoftoby · 13/02/2009 20:11

I wore royce and freya nursing bras and then refitted to get more to breastfeed in too and they were all fine.

poppysweetie · 14/02/2009 21:44

Hotmilk, do bravissimo have them?

cityangel · 14/02/2009 23:37

I personally liked Bravado and Anita 5075 style

no underwire/ visibility and support were more important to me than pretty because I did buy pretty ones but when feeding in public the plainer the better for me...

also i didn't realise you need your bras to match your clothes so hated the white one because it was more visible

But there was a big difference from boobs as early Mum as 3 month breast feeding so be sure of your size particularly if first time mum

If you end up breastfeeding in public you want a bra that hides under the top and a lot of them bizarrely show very high up the chest. If you breastfeed lots and also leak you need more than one... so I would try one or two styles early on and then buy more if needed

hope this helps

Hi ranirani, blooming marvellous sell them but in my local branch didn't have a good range of sizes. plus bizarrely they try and put you off them as maternity bras "as they are nursing bras"

If you check the Hot Milk site they do have a list of stockists. What I did for my friend was order based on the measurements she had done at a department store at 39 weeks plus a cup size - M&S and John Lewis probably both good bets.

I also liked Bravado but agree probably not supportive enough for the large of nork (am 36A when not pg, 38C when bf dd1)
