I'm nearly 9 weeks, have morning sickness pretty bad and can't bear cooking smells at all. In particular garlic and onions have been banned from the house as they make me heave. So why is it that my DH now stinks of garlic and onions? His breath is acrid, not like someone gum disease, it is honestly like he's been eating pickled onion monster munch with a side order of raw garlic. He swears he's not eating anything like that at all and does not know why he stinks. I've checked with the dd's and they confirm that he stinks. . I've been getting him to floss and mouthwash etc but it makes no difference at all - he stinks. I know can't have him facing me in bed and can't even give him a kiss when he leaves for work as it makes me heave. I don't want to upset him more as he is truly lovely and is being so understanding of all of my pregnancy idiosyncrasies. What can I do? And to top it off I am unable to have 'relations' (as they say) cos can't bear having him near me .

Doctor and dentist. He might have an infection of the sinuses or a bad tooth that doesn't hurt.

My poor DP is not liking the extra teethcleaning or mouthwash. Nor doeshe like that he has to take his socks off when he's near me, as his smelly socks smell like wet dogs to me!

I think he's more bothered that I have become obsessed with his armpit smell though ... it's so MANLY!

I suddenly developed a sense of smell that I never had befor, it's not much fun, my sympathies .

Omigod - hanging belly you could be me!!! My poor hubbie gets told every 5 seconds 'your breath mings' and sent off to clean his teeth, and nothing works. I'm the same - making him lie facing away from me during the night and its making it difficult to have 'relations' as you put it as well...

I have heard that it is normal to get a heightened sense of smell during pregnancy. I have a long commute to work and other people stink more as well (I nearly puked on someone in the first trimester because he reeked of garlic - I couldn't believe that other people in the carriage weren't covering their noses as well).

Don't know what to suggest - it hasn't got any better for me I'm afraid (I'm now 29+1), but hoping it will disappear after LO is born... but just to let you know that it is normal (and I'm relieved to have read your thread as now I don't feel quite so much like a superbitch for my attitude to poor DH's breath!)

I defintiely had a heightened sense of smell when pg - it was worse in the first trimester, and did ease a bit, but I too found that DP smelled truly revolting.

You are not alone!!

I've heard this is nature's way of ensuring you don't accidently eat rotten food. With me it's cooking smells and DH's feet. Oh and we really need to get DS potty/toilet trained asap as I've had to stick tissue up my nose to change his nappies.

Me too, have hardly kissed my bloke in the whole 9 months, he thinks I've gone off him, no matter how much I explain. Boo! More stress!

Monkeytrousers · 10/02/2009 13:06

PMSL. It's your bodies way of saying 'don;t you come near me with that at half mast, expecting me to hoist the sails again!'

NotQuiteCockney · 10/02/2009 13:07

This is your sense of smell, not his smell. Your DDs are agreeing with you because they're your DDs.

monkeytrousers - nicely put. Mrs Brandybuck I'm also doing the tissue up the nose thing for nappies! in fact dd stinks right now but I'm putting it off..
