I was just wondering, is it possible to be induced by breaking waters and going on the oxytocin drip? both of my DC have been late (10 days and 12 days), 1st time round I was induced but had a really bad experience, fortunately for me last time a S&S worked 48hrs after being performed. If i hadnt gone into labour then was booked in for a section. I know i will go overdue again this time but just exploring my options as i really don't want to be induced with gel and really dont want a section. Does anyone know if you can be induced by breaking waters and oxytocin drip?

I think it depends on if you are dialated at all when you go in! If your cervix has already started to dialte (pre-labour) then this is possible, as they wouldnt be able to break waters if it was closed.

However I think it also depends on how high up the babies head is etc etc.... They wont break your waters if they think the cord might be below babies head.

I am not an expert, just things that Ive learnt along the way, and I may be wrong....hopefully someone with experience in this field will be along......

Oh also...I was induced with DD but they used the gel first to get me into labour, then broke waters at 3cm and put me on drip when I had epidural. I did end up with E.C.Section, but thats because DD went into distress....

I have seen a lot of threads on here about herbal methods of inducing labour (tea's/reflexology etc) have you tried any of those?

Yes I was induced by breaking waters first (which had little effect). I was then put straight on the oxytocin drip to crank up the contractions.

(I asked for an epidural before they put the drip in as I knew how bloody awful the contractions would be on it).

Disclaimer : I am a wuss though.

Thanks for ur input, I had exactly the same as you oneyummymummy with DS1 (long drawn out labour resulting in section), 2nd time round luckily i went into labour myself but just planning my options atm, im only just 11 weeks so just wanna make sure what i am going to do wen the time comes.
Anastasia i was adament i didnt want an epidural last time as 1st time round it only worked on half of me,but i am soooo glad i had it....it was fantastic (compared to 1st time round) although it stopped my labour so they then broke my water but it had changed so much since 1st time, that was wen you were numbed from the waist down but now you can walk around and everything, will defo be opting for one of those again

Yes. I was induced both times by having a prostin pessary. First time my waters broke spontaneously as labour started. Second time, they broke my waters a few hours after the prostin. Neither time required the drip.

For DD3, I had my waters broken - was only 2 cm dilated, it took two mws to do it, and they said it was only possible because my cervix was knackered stretchy due to previous births. It did bugger all, so I went straight to the synto drip. I had a previous c-section, so pessary is contra-indicated. I had an epidural before the drip went in, and went on to have the most wonderful, calm, stress-free birth (though some of that was due to the fabulous mw looking after me).
