Giving birth...

Hi,

I am in my first pregnancy and I have seen loads of threads where mums have said you are likely to poo whilst giving birth. Can you request an enema (not sure if this is how you spell it) and if not is there any where you can get one to use at home before you go into hospital - i.e in the first stages of contractions before they get too debilitating?

Thanks

agree with christiana - you will not care when the time comes.

Thanks ladies, I think it is just because I am a first time mum who never expected to be a mum at all as I was told I was infertile! I have spent years avoiding all talk of pregnancy and birth whenever possible as it was too painful so I have loads to catch up on. It just seems so weird now with all the things I keep reading and hearing that I wonder why pregnancy is not a bonafide sick condition which necessitates 9 months off work on its own (only kidding!) I am just a little neurotic that is all.

i was in a similar boat [supposedly infertile/definately neurotic] and all i can say is that the pregnancy will take its course and you'll be ready for it all to happen, poo and all.

I think lots of women do get a kind of diaorrhea / sickness thing in the first-middle stages of labour, too, which seems to be nature's way of clearing things out!

I know when you are pregnant for the first time it seems hideous to think of all the 'horrors' labour and oyu can't imagine how you are ever going to get through it. But you will. Promise.

If you do poo, it's right at the end when your pushing your baby out, and trust me - it's the LAST thing on your mind that you might be having a poo! Apparently I had a poo but I didn't even notice - DP told me the midwife cleaned it straight up without even a mention! Honestly - there are plenty more important things to think about during labour!!!
Good luck - when you due?

hms - as everyone has said, you probably won't even notice & it will probably be the last thing on your mind. FWIW I didn't while having DS2 (DS1 was e-c/s) so not everyone does.

Congrats, good luck & enjoy the experience as it is truly an amazing one

not that long ago all pregnant women used to be given enemas when they started labour and they might give you one if you ask (you could mention it to our midwife) but you really shouldn't worry about it as a) your system will clean itself out as labour starts so there might not be anything left in there b) it doesn't happen to everyone c) if it does happen to you you won't even know about it

I have given birth twice and it never happened to me - as far as I know!!
