Question about breastfeeding when you've had implants

I'm 30 weeks and I seem to have milk. Is this a good sign as I have been concerned that I won't be able to breastfeed as I had implants after the last time I breastfed...?

Does anyone have any experience?

I have 2 friends with implants who have both managed to breastfeed with no problem.

Afaik most women with augmentation are able to feed, those unable to would be in the minority.

A friend of mine who has implants started trying to breastfeed. She only managed for a few days though as she was having problems getting her LO to latch on. Don't think the problem was caused by her implants though.

Thanks for replies - yeah I've heard that if you have implants they can make engorgement worse.

Ive fed all 3 of mine with no problems. (Had mine done before having DD1.) Plenty of milk and no latching problems.

I don't know if my implants made engorgement worse as I have nothing to compare it to, but it certainly wasn't a problem.

Oh, good that sounds encouraging Sidge. And can I ask - does it affect your boobs afterwards a lot and can this be helped by wearing a supportive bra all the time?

The implant sits under the breast tissue iyswim & so the function of the breast is not impaired. Good luck

Thanks

I had mine done 11 years ago, so 3 pregnancies and lots of bf-ing later they do look slightly 'baggier' than they used to, but then they always looked very natural anyway (no shining globes here!)

I now always wear underwired bras and needed a sleep bra at night when pregnant and when bf-ing as they needed some containment. I went from a B-C cup to an E-EE!

I've now gone back to my old size but as I said they are a little softer and baggier. I think that would have happened anyway with the change in size so I don't know how much better or worse it would be if I hadn't had my implants IYKWIM.

Thanks Sidge. I breastfed two babies for 4 years in total and my boobs disappeared so I had them done after dd2 stopped feeding. I am hoping then that they will survive one more child feeding after the surgery.....I don't want this baby to miss out.

I'm sure you'll do just fine

All the best!
