Safe cure for thrush

Such a delightful topic ... But does anyone have a natural cure for thrush? The pharmasist gave me an emphatic NO when I asked about canestan, and acidophilus yoghurt is just a bit too messy...

Does anyone have any other suggestions, it's driving me mad!

just go for the yoghurt and forget the mess.

When I was pg, I was safely prescribed the canesten pessary MANY times.
Unless advice has changed ask you gp for a prescription,(make the most of it being free!)

Thanks spykid, will call tomorrow - that would be such a relief! In the meantime, I do have some acidopholous yoghurt in the fridge, so might give it a go

I was prescribed canestan by the obstetrician so I would think its ok. It didn't work though and after having the baby I used gyno-daktarin pessary and cream. (It could have been safe whilst pregnant too, ask a dr)

AFAIK only Canesten or yogurt cure, but there's a product in Boots called Lactacyd that might help. It's not a cure, but does ease the symptoms a bit. Use it instead of soap to wash your bits, and keep a packet of the wipes in your pocket to clean yourself after using the toilet when you're out and about.

doesn't have to be acidophilus yogurt .. just natural live yogurt - you just need to dab the end of a tampon in it - shouldn't make too much mess

Get the yogurt (NOT SWEETENED) and get a 5ml "inserter", you know the kind you can get from the nhs) and just shove it in. Its not much of a mess. Its immediately soothing, cheap and safe.

I had the same a couple of weeks ago, had canestan cream plus insert prescribed by midwife, but I also took acidolphilus pills, which you can
get from holland and barratt, etc. Check they are not too strong for pregnant women - and keep them in the fridge. They just help knock it out and as I suffered from thrush with my ds birth in breasts I really wanted to get it sorted before number two is born (two weeks). I also found that I was craving sugar so knocked out anything sweet for a couple of weeks plus (this may be me being too careful) yeast, bread etc. I'm clear now and what a relief. If you need to know the strength of acidolphillus post again and I'll check mine, its three floors down from here and I am actually the size of a house! Hope you get sorted soon.
