nipple creams - recommendations?

a few choices in mothercare - wondered if anyone could recommend one over the others?

lansinoh is the business.

i used kamillosan (can be used for nappy rash too) but these days lasinoh is indeed the biz.

I think I used a whole tube of Kamillosan on my nips, oh god, they were so so sore!! it makes me want to cry just thinking about it! I've got to go through it again soon Aggghhh!

i spent a fortune on lasinoh, what a waste of money!! Kamillosan was however great and a lot nicer to use as well imo. HTH

Kamillosan, but don't pay for it. They should give it to you on prescription/ at the hospital. They did with me anyway.

I tried creams, but found it a pain having to wash off before feeding. Cabbage leaves from the fridge are cooling, but the best thing for me was as recommended by the hospital breastfeeding help group - express milk and rub on. If nipples are really, really sore it could be that babe is not latched on properly - ask mw / breastfeeding group for advice.

Another vote for lansinoh. I used to apply this then cover the nipple with a tiny square of Gelonet (available from your GP) when my nipples were cracked - this stopped them sticking to the breast pad/bra (ouch).

I got so sore I ended up having to express from the broken side till it healed. Do get help from a b/f counsellor/midwife/HV if you need it.

I'm trying the Advent "Soothing Nipple Cream" at the moment, seems quite good, also has a bonus as you don't have to wash it off first before feeding . I presume it's a new product as I haven't come across it before now!!!

kamillosan. the smell of it reminds me of when dd first came home.... and when my nipples were really sore...... great stuff!

I agree with 2boyz, expressed milk is better than any cream. I did use Kamillosan and found it helpful but expressed milk was the business.

I used kamillosan, which you don't have to wash off, but I did wipe it off because it was making DS's mouth too slidey and affecting the latch (which took a while to get right anyway).

lasinoh, but best is to squeeze out some milk and just rub it round the nipple
