Nursery fees in the South West - can you give me some idea?

I live in Salisbury and am having our first child in May. I will be at that point a qualified solicitor and am wondering how much of my salary, if I decide to go back to work, will be spent on nursery fees.

I've heard various figures and I know it's like asking how long is a piece of string! But any ideas you can give me would be appreciated.

Roughly £30 a day in my experience.

I know you're in the South West, but in the North West it's £30-£32 per full day (£17.50 for our son's morning session-which includes a snack and lunch).

Depends a little on how much they are at nursery as they discount for full weeks- DS is full time, and I pay 680 for 8-6, Mon-Fri, all food included as well as wipes but not nappies

Ask your employer, and your DP/Dh's about childcare vouchers which are taken out of your pay before tax and NI - the cost of getting a company to do them for your employer is offset by the NI that they save.

About £35 per day in the centre of Salisbury.

I am as I pay £57 per day in Surrey!

I'm Swindon based, a good nursery is 45 per day. Considered childminders? Mine is 30 per day from 7am till 5:30pm and also more flexible than a nursery. Don't forget your employers might have the childcare voucher scheme which lets you off tax and NI for the amount you choose to sacrifice for the vouchers (up to 255 per month I think).

B52's - well remembered re the vouchers. The maximum amount you can take is £243 per parent a month.

A higher rate tax payer saves £1196 pa
A lower rate tax payer saves £962 pa

Thank you all for your replies. My contract runs out in June and I have baby in May (mat leave in April) so I won't be employed, but husband will be....might get him to pester his company to look into it, although we won't need it for a little while - I'm not planning on putting a little baby in nursery.

Thanks again,

Cfc xx
