Hiya just as it says in the title really, going to my parents tonight and we'll be having haggis. Stepmum just text me saying do I want veggie haggis as the proper one contains liver. I'd imagine I'll not need to be that extreme surely eating liver once would be ok would it? Or am I being too calm? I usually don't cross the line when it comes to foods which you avoid. Will eating it once do harm?
Could you just give a quick yes or no as to what you'd do or what you think please. I'm 28 weeks.
Thanks

I had veggie haggis last year. Just not worth the (admittedly small) risk.

I'm sure once would be fine !

They used to recommend liver to pregnant women years ago and its not like your going to be having loads of it is it.. i shouldn't imagine there is much liver in a protion of haggis

I would have it. I've had pate as a one off but wouldn't have it every day. Like Worzel said they used to recommend it.

But why risk it? If the offer of a veggie haggis is there I would take it.

If you want it have it. someone will probably correct me, but isn't the argument against liver due to someone who overdid it? Our mums were told to eat it for the iron. I don't like liver and can take or leave pate, but when about 8 and a bit months pregnant with DS1 I did have rather a large amount of foie gras (sorry flame me) which was lovely.

Isn't the risk with liver that it is high in vitamin A and that pregnant women are not supposed to have too much vit A?

You'd have to eat a lot of liver though to overdose on vit A. Eating a small amount won't do you any harm.

I live in France where women are encouraged to eat liver during pregnancy but just not to over do it.

Or is there some other risk that I'm not aware of re food poisoning or summat?

lovely, thanks guys, I'm just going to have some.
pezzina - I see you're point but the veggie haggis is naff compared to the real stuff, so would only want to consider it if the risk was serious.
