Morning sickness and anti-sickness tablets

I'm having a bit of a rough time at the moment with morning sickness. I don't feel better until about 1pm (so it really is morning sickness!) My work has started going down hill so I went to the docs yesterday who gave me some tablets called Prochlorperazine to take. She said they were safe to take but I'm still a bit worried. Has anyone else taken these or any other type of anti-sickness tablets to get over morning sickness?

I tried three different things and none of them worked. I did feel a bit odd taking them and guilty.

I've had two acupuncture sessions and they seem to have worked. After the first one I stopped being sick during the day, just in the morning, and after the second one the nausea has decreased significantly.

If you feel odd taking medication then maybe try alternative medicine?

newbie, i haven't had any medication though earlier in the week i was desperate for something to control the all day nausea and frequent vomiting. My dr signed me off for the week and rest has helped hugely.

I second accupuncture - i go every week and the few days after i've had it, my symptoms are significantly less bad although still there. Its expensive but it has helped me avoid meds so far.
good luck, hope you feel better soon.

Got some travel bands at the chemist yesterday - it's not so much the sickness, it's dizziness which is so bad that I can hardly make it to my kitchen - let alone work - any time before midday. Prepared to try anything - and will look at acupuncturists in my local area. Thanks for the advice Picante.

I had prochlorperazine (brand name Buccastem), and, while it made me feel a bit grotty, it really helped with the nausea and all-day vomming.
If you feel a bit funny or guilty about taking them, save them for when you REALLY need them - I used to take them when I had to go food shopping, or travel anywhere, or socialise.
A good tip is to put it under your lip for a few mins, then take it out and let it dry - so you're not getting a full dose every time you feel sick.
I took them with DS, and have taken them this pregnancy (28 weeks now). DS has turned out fine, and I think this drug has been used in pregnancy for long enough to have proven itself OK. I think people still have the spectre of thalidomide in their minds when anti morning sickness meds are discussed, but things have moved on meds-wise.
Hope you feel better soon.

I had terrible morning sickness with both my DC to the point where I was actually hospitalised with DS2. The Dr precribed me a pill call (I think) Cyclizine. I felt so frightened taking it but it was literally the only way I could keep anything down or be able to look after DS1 (DP works away). DS2 was born with no problems and I had no side effects whatsoever. HTH

there's also a recent hyperemesis thread, which might give you some tips, and it's also a good place to have a whinge.
