Baby Movements

Can anyone allay my concerns. I'm 17 +3 weeks, for the last 3 weeks I've been feeling a lot of movement. Started as flutters and moved to larger movements, a bit like swishes. I haven't felt any kicking yet at all, which I understand is normal.

For the last few days I have felt some movement but much much less than before. Should I be worried?

For what it's worth, my ms sickness hasn't completely disappeared (although I thinks its getting better) and I'm still nauseus a lot.

It's my first pregnancy so I have no idea what I should be feeling.

Thanks for any advice...

Hi

Congrats on your pregnancy. I know it is a worrying time, especially with your first.

I didn't get my first kick with DS1 until I was 18 weeks and 2 days (I remember it very clear), but I think it was about the same time with DS2 , can't remember exactly though.

I didn't feel any movements as such with either of them early on, only once they started kicking but I am sure all is well with you. Maybe buba has just shifted position for a while. I am sure the kicking will not be far away now.

Take care.

I am 18 weeks and have the same situation, highrise. I was fretting so that I called my midwife and she said it was perfectly normal at this stage. The baby has so much room in there that it is practically a fluke when you do feel it move at this stage!

Also, once I relaxed about it a bit, I started to feel it move a lot more. In fact during Obama's inauguration speech, I think the baby was doing the rumba! Baby seems to like him!

Hi. With my first I didn't feel anything or recognise any movement until about 20/21 weeks. The placenta was at the front so I'm thinking that was acting as a cushion.
With 2nd pg, I started feeling movements at about 15 weeks but baby would often have 'lazy' days where I didn't feel very much at all.
Agree with beaner, maybe he's just moved further back and is fine, just kicking in a place you can't feel yet.
I wouldn't worry too much, but of course you will.
See what happens tomorrow and if your still worried give mw or DAU a call and they can get you in and check the heart beat. I was at DAU 4/5 times during my first for that reassurance and they were very nice every time.

I have also found the following encourages movement, a warm bath, a very cold drink, laying in a dark quiet room on my side, resting something on stomach (like the tv remote) or eating a pack of wine gums

x-posted. agree with everyone else too

I didn't feel anything until about week 20/21

(I had a few flutters, which I now know where the baby, before I knew I was PG, but that's a long story!)

Fizzy drinks , iced drinks, and baths always got DS moving.

And, for somereason, he was always much more active in the evening / night than during the day, so maybe the resting thing is impotant too?

thanks everyone for your reassurances. Difficult not to be a worry wart (which comes so naturally to me!) but I just can't help. I'll try to relax a bit and hope baby is doing fine.

Good luck with your pregnancies!

I meant to also say, sometimes if you lie very still, and just breath deeply, the baby will start to move. Worked for me last night and this morning!

Hi. It's a worry, isn't it? I'm 22 weeks today and I do feel movements every day now but it's only flutterings and no big kicks yet. Some days I hardly feel much and others it's on and off all day. But it does depend on the position etc.

HairyToe · 23/01/2009 14:53

I'm 20 weeks with baby no. 3 and I have felt some movements on and off - sometimes nothing for quite a while then they come back again. I've put it down to baby being very small and there still being quite a bit of room in their to shift about. So when it's near the front I can feel it, but when it 'swims' to the back I can't - does that make sense?

Hi everyone - good to read what you have been writing. I am 19 weeks today and haven't really felt much movement yet. Can't help but feel worried about that. Have scan next mon so am hoping that will put my mind at rest....
