Hello. I remember drinking Rasberry leaf tea last time, which is meant to tone your uterus? Can't remember what stage you are meant to start?

I just read on baby centre web site that you can start taking it from 32 weeks onwards.
I am almost 37, so no harm for me then , but how many do you take a day? I mean tea made with tea bags?

I drank the tea last time - didn't know about the tablets. It wasnb't great but after the first couple, I very soon got used to it and it just became the norm, and helped me up my fluid intake, which has always been rubbish. And I always like to have a hot drink in the evenings, which soon became RLT and I got so used to it. Still drank it after the birth as it is meant to be good for recovery. You can drink up to 4 cups a day, but start with one and increase. Don't know anything about the tablets - I expect they vary in strenght?

The lady in the Health Food Shop told me that you have to drink ALOT for it to have any effect, and recommended the tablets instead.

i drank the tea last time - as chloe said building it up from one cup to sometimes 4 a day and got quite used to the taste.

dont know for definite if it did any good - but only one in my family not to be induced (although i did go 6 days over).

will definitely be drinking it again this time round.

I used the tea with my last baby and with a drop of honey in i quite liked it. But to be fair i went 10 days over, so don't bank on it working.

I don't think Raspberry leaf, or anyone talking about it claims that it will make you on time, or even help when your over due. The reports are that the helps tone the uterine muscle, so makes your contractions more efficent and the second stage of labour quicker and easier.

You can also get it in a liquid drop form, which is virtually tasteless. You add 1 ml to water. Starting with once a day, adding up to three times a day as you get closer to your due date.

Since this is my first, i can't tell you whether it works! But it can't hurt to try!

Pinkmarshmallow · 22/01/2009 15:57

I started takin it last wk at 34 wks, just one cup a day. Upped the dose to 2 cups a day this week. A spoonful of honey in it makes it quite a pleasant drink, much nicer even than some of the other herbal teas out there.

Agree with rraryray, it doesn't make your baby come early or on time but makes your contractions more effective at getting baby down and out quicker in labour. Also may give you more BH.

conkertree · 22/01/2009 16:33

yes thats actually what i meant to say pinkmarshmallow - i didnt think that the tea brought on labour, but i think it maybe gave me more BH than I might have had otherwise, and even if that doesnt bring it on sooner, it at least feels like something is happening.

chloejessmeg · 22/01/2009 19:00

nobody can say if it works or not because you don't know what the labour would have been like without it. My last labour was very slow and conractions were not effective enough to dilate so needed induction to speed things up. But that doesn't mean it didn't work, but nor do I claim it didn't. You don't know because yes I had a 49 hour labour, but it might have been worse without it.

Was reading about raspberry leaf the other day and think I'll try it in a month or so (not quite 28 weeks yet). Was just wondering if it's one of those things that you need to check with a doctor first before taking, or is it OK for everyone to take. Anyone know or spoken to a doctor about it?

mummy2joshuarileyandbump · 26/01/2009 22:10

I was told it is not the best thing to take if you have previously had a section but not sure. I think everyone can take it, the ppl in the health shops are usually up on these things

Mirry71 · 26/01/2009 22:26

anyone tell me the best place to buy it from by the way?

mummy2joshuarileyandbump · 27/01/2009 00:43

holland and barratt deffo do it, pretty much any healthcare shop should stock it, you can also buy it online
