Is haggis safe to eat?!

DH is Scottish and in order to keep him in touch with his roots, we've got TWO Burns Suppers this weekend. I'll be 13 weeks on Monday - does anyone know whether haggis is OK to eat? I do love it.

I suppose I could always take the wimps way out and have the veggie version but that just seems wrong to me....

I'm glad you asked, I was going to have haggis this weekend - I would say not ok because of the liver content - (there is liver right?). Hmm, looks like it's veggie haggis for me this year..

I would advise against a full portion as it has offal - liver etc - infact you don't really know what might be in it! You could always just have a small taste as that wont do you any harm!

I ate haggis whilst I was pregnant. It's full of everything and anything - but not too much of any of the "banned" foods. My mum used to work for a butcher and said not to worry, just enjoy. Hmmm haggis...lovely

Oh no! I never thought it wouldn't be safe. I love haggis.

I don't think it always has liver in in it?
You could always aak before deciding on the veggie option

tbh, I ate it when pregnant as I just didn't think about it, and I would say that liver as a one (or two) off would be OK and that it's regular eating of it that will cause a build up of vitamin A that's the danger.

Never though not to eat it, have had it a few times since being pregnant. Will be having some on Sunday too. My 22 month old loves it too!

Oh no! Didn't even cross my mind that it wouldn't be OK. Have just bought some from the butcher for the weekend. Am 36 weeks tho so I expect it's OK at this stage.

I avoided haggis while pregnant as the traditional recipe contains liver - BUT Grant's tinned haggis has no liver in it and so is completely pregnant friendly (I know of no risk with offal generally, just liver).

I don't know if you can get that down south, it's common up here in Scotland. It's not the touristy stuff which comes in a skin inside the tin, it's just stuffed into the tin like corned beef and you empty it out and microwave it. Sounds dodgy but it's pretty good.

It probably is, but it's vile.
