Anyone have any ideas for things to do during the last 8 weeks? It's my first baby, so theres no toddler to drive me around the bend, lol. Im at home, and have nothing to do...and I'm starting to get bored and down!

Creative ideas please people?!

Is my first too, worked up to 37 weeks and baby is now a week + 2 days overdue.
I got lots of sleep, as I'd been working like crazy, sounds like you are not too knackered though?
How about having beauty treatments/hair cut/colour? Things you won't be able to do (for a while) after baby is born.
I've gone online and made myself a wish-list of gorgeous clothes I can wear, even though I'll probably not buy/be able tot afford them, it's given me something non baby to do.
Have also been reading lots of chick lit spending time with my mum and learning how to cook!

jennylindinha · 19/01/2009 14:28

Sleep! As much as you can - it's the one thing I didn't do enough of (I had 4 weeks mat leave before DD arrived) and now I can't remember the last time I had more than 5 hours in a stretch! DD is 3 months old and much as I love her, I used to love my lie-ins too...

Also, how about some swimming and yoga. Yoga is great for relaxing and preparing for labour. And I also second the haircut, another thing I never got round to before the birth and it looks awful and straggly in those first baby pics.

Enjoy yourselves and good luck

Onlyaphase · 19/01/2009 14:32

Pick out thank you cards (don't have to order them just yet) and/or birth announcement cards. You will get sent so many presents and I always wished I'd laid in lots of thank you cards

This is an old chestnut, but fill your freezer with lots of stuff you can just bung in the oven. If they can be eaten with one hand, so much the better - lasagne, chili, curries, shepherds pie etc. Well worth it for first few weeks.

Have baths, alone and in peace.

Go to cinema, likewise

Find out exactly how pram and carseat straps work.

purpleflower · 19/01/2009 14:33

Sleep, read, relax in the bath and enjoy eating and drinking things while they are hot and with more than one hand. I used to meet friends for lunch and just enjoy spending some time on my own.

bananapaddlepop · 19/01/2009 14:40

Sleep
Cook
Long baths
DVDs
Hair cuts

Rest basically..

jennylindinha · 19/01/2009 14:44

Oh yes, check the carseat now! We tried to go shopping in the first week (perhaps over-ambitiously but family were coming over the next day) and we couldn't get the seat to fit in our rather old car. Cue me having a complete hormonal meltdown with tears and everything in the middle of the street, storming back into the house with baby and DP having to go on his own, completely unable to read my writing on the list...

That was a black day!

Sleep lots.
Pamper yourself, massage, facial, whatever.
Listen to your favourite music.
Watch some great films.
Cook a meal that you really enjoy, or order a takeaway and savour it. Enjoy the ability to eat with both hands at once and talk to your partner as you linger over dessert...
Get your DP to run the hoover round, as that's the last time that'll be happening for a while!

I wish I'd read more books - now I have no time, and I manage about 2 pages a night before I fall into an exhausted slumber. And I have a baby that likes to sleep!

Congrats, by the way

trixymalixy · 19/01/2009 14:56

Sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Read lots of books
Go to the cinema
Go out for dinner

You won't be able to do any of these things for ages!!

Wheelybug · 19/01/2009 15:20

I have 8 weeks to go too but have a 4 year old to keep me busy and also need to do things like, get nursery ready, buy stuff for hospital bag, decide on names etc (oh yes, we are prepared !!

If I were you I would sleep late, do some (gentle) exercise and generally take time to do all the things you enjoy that you might not be able to do for a while.

Deaconwood · 19/01/2009 15:26

I have 6 weeks to go. Going to:

Read as much as I can
Get photos printed from the last couple of years and put them in an album
Make ready meals to freeze (if I can find someone's freezer to use!)
Relax by the fire
Have lots of baths
Get out for fresh air everyday

Cosette · 19/01/2009 15:29

sort out some photos, get them printed and put them in an album if you haven't done that already. When I was pg with DS, I updated the albums I've done for DD1 and DD2, but regret now not doing it for me too - ie a selection from holidays with DH, our wedding, Christmases etc. Still need to find the time to do that!

magnummum · 19/01/2009 17:24

Agree with all of the above and indulge in "me time" while you've got some! Would also recommend reading a few chapters of what to do with a newborn baby - everyone I know obsessed with reading up on pregnancy and labour and nothing about what happens next...

mum2b09 · 19/01/2009 17:36

hii cherry baby ive got 8 weeks left with my first baby too what date you due?

im sat at home with absolutely nothing to do but watch day time telly haha. i found myself feeling abit bored and down so i invested in a few books to read about newborns. im not usually one to pick up a book and read but it has given me something to focus on and keep my mind off worrying about the actual birth and the boredom/excitement of waiting.

if you havent already packed your bag thats something to do.. write out a list and make sure you have everything you need for the birth or write a birth plan if you feel you need one :D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Cherrybaby · 20/01/2009 21:38

thanks for the great ideas everyone, keep them rolling in!

I've written a HUUUUGE list of new things I want, just for the sake of greed and materialism

I love the photos ideas, Im deffo going to sort out all my pics

mum2be09, Im due on the 31st of march, whats your due date??

Amapoleon · 20/01/2009 21:43

Indulge
Indulge
indulge
indulge

You can see where this going
Make the most of time alone, long baths, lie ins reading for 3 hours at a time etc. because it could be a while

ThumbBurns · 20/01/2009 21:47

I spent the last 7 weeks knitting a "baby" blanket for DS. It turned out to be an awful lot bigger than I anticipated (no pattern, I just took 7 100g balls of wool in rainbow colours and knitted them all into this blanket) It is a lovely warm colourful thing that we use on the sofa for DS to sleep in/on when he has a nap downstairs, plus we love to huddle under it and let ourselves be lit by the different colours - good learning tool, eventually! Very warm too..

BikeRunSki · 20/01/2009 23:35

I swam a lot and cooked to fill freezer.

A drank a lot of hot choc in Costa Coffee.

And hire TENS machine if you want to use one. Mine arrived a few hours before DS (2 weeks early)!

AvonBarksdale · 21/01/2009 10:31

GO TO THE CINEMA

Go and see all the films that have any kind of Oscar nomination. I did it last year and have never regretted it. Go and watch two in a day!

CookieMonster2 · 21/01/2009 10:59

My top tips:

  • Spring clean the house - it won't get done properly for a while once the baby arrives.
  • Sleep
  • Fill the freezer with food/meals
  • Sleep
  • Get you hair cut really short as close to the due date as you dare leave it.
  • Sleep
  • Enjoy sitting down in total peace and quiet with nothing to do and don't feel guilty about it.
  • Sleep
  • Come round and help me get ready for the arrival of number 2. The house is always a tip when you have a toddler as well and I am making very slow progress!
dinny · 21/01/2009 11:00

come and look after my kids for me?

dinny · 21/01/2009 11:01

seriously, ENJOY THE PEACE

cinema
lunches with friends
read, read, read
sleep
pamper - go for facial?

dinny · 21/01/2009 11:01

sorry, CM, disagree with getting your hair cut short close to due date, you will look like a pea head...

go swimming?
