Prams...oh my God I'm soooo confused! Please help

I've been looking at prams for a while now and keep coming back to the Silver Cross 3D. I like it cos it looks quite cosy and makes me want to put my baby in it. So I had pretty much decided that it's the pram for me.
The reviews for it seem to be quite good too. However, the reviews on the car seat aren't so great so now I'm just totally confused!
Anybody got any advise for me?
I'm open to any suggestions but I'm not so keen on the really modern prams, as nice and trendy as they are I just don't think they look comfortable and cosy for my LO.
Another idea I had was to get the Silver Cross pram and then just get the Maxi Cosi car seat but as this is my first I'm not sure how much of an inconvenience it would be to not be able to clip the seat on to the pram.
Help please )

I got all confused about this too. In the end - because DP's parents insisted on buying - I went for the iCandy Apple special edition (which is one of the modern ones you mention). It cost £699, not cheap! But that's because I knew other mums who had used it and loved it.

I do also like the fact the Maxi Cosi car seat can be clipped in, I think this will be bonus when bub is small. We are also using the carrycot (pram bit) as a Moses basket to save money.
For me it is about having something I don't have to fiddle around with, the only problem I can see is that it is very substantial, so a bit heavy. However we live out in the country and do lots of walking so I wanted a pram/buggy that felt solid.
I guess like most mums here we'll probably use a MacClaren buggy at some stage.

I have the Silver Cross 3D in the Jet Black colour. It's an ok pram but it didn't live up to my expectations really - it looks great but our frame seems to have buckled a bit which makes it hard to open up and put down. We should really take it back as i've seen some reviewers on Mothercare that have had the same problem and it's fixed and it's no problem after that.

However, we've had no problems with it otherwise and I like the way it converts from the pram to the pushchair. What has been said about the car seat? We've had no problems with it other than that it's a bit heavy and our DS hated being in a car seat full stop! It's really useful that it just clips on the pram though if you need to pop anywhere briefly so for us having the correct car seat for the pram was very helpful.

I've read reviews saying that it doesn't fit in certain cars but it seems to mainly be Fords as their seat belts aren't as long. As far as I can see tho it shouldn't be a problem in my Corsa or my Mum's 206.

The other complaint about it is that it is quite heavy but I don't plan to carry baby very far in it, would just be from house to car etc.

Buy the pram if you like it,but buy a carseat to fit your car NOT your pram.
Halfords are a good place to start, they will to be able to advise what carseat will fit your car properly.

Ahh yes that's true, we had a Ford Focus and it didn't fit but we were going to get a new car anyway (or so DP says ) so it's fits in our new car. It fits in my 106 too. Marla is right that it's a heavy pram too. It does look nice though...

nappyaddict · 19/01/2009 14:14

You want a nice 3 wheeler - effortless!

nappyaddict · 19/01/2009 14:21

BTW my friend had the silvercross 3d and said it was really heavy to push.

xxhunnyxx · 19/01/2009 14:45

hmmmm decisions decisions.
It's such a difficult decision to make, I'll have to use it every day for the next 2 years so I really want to make sure I get the right one.
I don't want to spend too much either, I think my mum is actually going to offer to pay for it but I don't want her to be spending too much on it

My DSis has the Silver Cross 3D and HATES it. Her DS is 19 weeks and she has been trying to get rid of it for weeks now. I pushed it the other day and it was heavy both to carry and push and it doesn't fold/unfold very easily either.

I have been looking at a M&P Skate which I have fallen in love with, but it depends what your requirements are.

nappyaddict · 19/01/2009 14:53

xxhunnyxx - your needs can change as your baby gets older. i would buy a second hand one that's still in good condition. that way if you change your mind and want to try something else you can usually get back roughly what you paid for it (sometimes more )

xxhunnyxx · 19/01/2009 15:03

Bratnav - I do really like that M&P Skate, thanks for that, not looked it before.
There's a big M&P's shop near me so I think I'll pop up there one evening and check it out.

The features I liked the most are the combined carrycot/pushchair unit which can stay on the chassis when you fold it down, it can face either way, also you can move the seat up and down on the chassis so the baby is closer to you.

We are getting the bugaboo bee. My friends seem to love it and I am so tired of trying to make a decision that we are just going to go with that one.

Oooh, I had an out and about twin when my DD1 and DD2 were both tiny, amazing piece of kit.

chaya5738 · 19/01/2009 16:11

I thought the bugaboo would be outside out budget too but the bugaboo bee is £350, which is about standard for good quality prams.

xxhunnyxx · 19/01/2009 16:17

The option to have the pushchair facing me is defo a big bonus, I know that statisticlly children in parent facing prams have better speach etc.
TBH I was hoping to spend less but since I'll be using it so much I think I'd probably rather spend more to make sure I get something which will last and not drive me crazy!

I like to have at least one big sturdy pram for walking and one lightweight pram for public transport and chucking in the back of the car for short trips out.

My favourites are

traxx ecuador, mutsy 4 rider or light rider as it is sometimes called, any of the teutonia pushchairs, mamas and papas skate, m&p joolz, gesslein f2, gesslein future, gesslein vision s, mothercare maiu, bebecar ip-op, bebecar vector, mia moda allegria, mia moda atmosferra, petite star whirl, petite star dot, luna, bugaboo bee, jane carrera, jane solo.

christiana - yeah you've probably got a point, but it's prob still nice to have the option.
I think the main cause of children having delayed speach is by using the TV as a child minder and not reading to them or playing with them. Hopefully I wont be one of those parents.

I have to agree there is no pram that will do all the things you want from my experience.
I also really like the look of the sivercross 3d. Have you been into pram centres etc and tried pushing and folding any prams?

We did i had my heart set on the bebecar stylo but when i tried it out it felt a bit small height wise and a little dinky for what i want. So in the same shop saw the mutsy urban rider and fell in love with it its so light and turns on the spot so thats what we are going with.

And today my friends sil offered me a nearly new silvercross 3d in pistachio with car seat and all accessories for £50!! so not to refuse a bargain i might take it as well small pram obsession going on!

wellbalanced · 19/01/2009 17:28

My friend has the silvercross and its far to heavy for my liking and we faffed about putting it in car too (hers is polo)

Pinkbump3 · 19/01/2009 17:32

A lot of people say they dont like it because its heavy but thats one of the things i like about it i'm no lightweight so not worrying about struggling to push it . I hate a flimsy buggy and unless you are going up a lot of stairs and hills it shouldnt be a problem.

xxhunnyxx · 19/01/2009 18:54

Anybody know much about the Babystyle prams?
