Hello all:

I have my booking in with the midwife at Kings College Hospital this afternoon. Any advice on questions to ask? Is she likely to listen for the heartbeat?

many thanks!

Hello Lastbox: I've been on a few other threads with you: didn't realise you were local!

Prob too late now: I'm sure you've gone for your appt.

They didn't listen for heartbeat at mine: maybe too early at 11-12 weeks? Just lots of questions about your medical history, height and weight, setting up all the paperwork and giving you your file.

They also take blood: lots of it! Hope you aren't squeamish!

I had my first follow up appt last week (I'm 18 weeks) and they listened to the heartbeat, which was lovely: had forgotten that they do that!

Have you had your scan yet?

Anyway; hope it went well.

Also meant to say: they were pretty disorganised when I went: the rooms are very cramped and they all seemed tired and pissed off!

Hi Mrsbabookaloo
I have indeed been and now at home!
I'm 13+3, but they didn't listen to the heartbeat. I'm meant to see he midwife at my GP in 4 weeks and they said they'll listen then. I had my scan last week and everything was looking fine, so I guess I'm just going to have to take that info to heart and be a bit patient

The office was a bit crazy (it was the "house" on cutcombe road - is that where you had to go?) and very cramped, but everyone was very nice.

There was a trainee midwife doing my booking in with the regular midwife and they asked if it was okay if she tried to take my blood. I said okay because I know I have good veins and I'm not squeamish, but I'd hate to think what other people would've said to her! She tried once and it didn't go very well so the second time, the mw pretty much took over, although she seemed more nervous than I was. I imagine some patients might flip out.

thanks for your response!

Yes, the house on cutcombe road: obviously not designed for that purpose!

You are brave, having a trainee stabbing around at your veins!!

I go there and I love my midwife! They are all very friendly and helpful. I was originally going to go to Orpington hospital - try them and you'll realise how excellent Kings are!
