anterior low-lying placenta at 34 weeks - advice needed!

I had a scan last week to check if my low-lying placenta seen at 20 weeks had moved up out of the way. Person doing the scan was very uncommunicative and didn't seem at all sure what she was doing. She said she couldn't see the bottom of the placenta because of where the baby's head is and she tried for ages but in the end seemed to give up. She then wrote on my notes that it was not covering the cervix although she had told us she couldn't see. No recommendation to get scanned again or even to speak to my midwife and I came out feeling really worried. Does anyone know if the placenta is still likely to move in the next few weeks? Shouldn't they re-scan to check? Also, even if it is not covering the cervix, could it still cause a problem during labour that might result in a C-section? I'm really keen to have as natural a birth as possible but if this could cause a problem, I really feel it would help to know sooner rather than later. Anyone got experience of this?

I'm out the other side of a low lying placenta now - grade 4 full coverage previa. resulted in lots of bleeding, 3wk stay in hosp prior to birth and a csection.

I think you need a definitive yes or no on the scan now - you don't want to go into labour and its still low lying. get on to your midwife in the morning.

have you had any bleeding so far? if not that might be positive but if she can't see the bottom I'd demand a rescan. it does seem that the 33wk scan is the final point for moving so you need to make sure.

btw yes it can still cause a problem in labour - theres grades 1 to 4. apparently labour can move the placenta up and out of way. but you'd want to no otherwise you wouldn't relax in labour.

oh, mine was anterior as well but the radiographer had convinced staff it was posterior!. when they cut me open there was the placenta. it had to be cut and I lost 2litres of blood

Agree you could do with a grade. I had grade 2 and no probs - nb - but not guaranteed.

thanks for the responses, not had any bleeding so far which I'm taking to be a positive sign. my midwife is on leave until tomorrow but I will phone her in the morning and be demanding!!
