Any tips to beat acid indigestion? Might be TMI...

I have had mild acid indigestion pretty much since I conceived (that's how I guessed I was pregnant as I've never had it before, despite not being my first pregnancy). It's getting worse. I've had 3 'attacks' of bad indigestion 2-3 hours after I've eaten, last night resulting in being sick. My throat was stinging from the acid and I burst blood vessels around my eyes. I've been feeling mild heartburn all day as a result, but I can't take another night like last night, never mind for this to continue for another 33 weeks!!!

I am going to make a docs appointment, but has anyone been through this? What can I take? How do I keep it at bay?

I am finding it hard to sleep/function during the day and finding it very hard to eat!

I have had it really bad this is my first pregnancy and its bloody awful!!

Im 32 weeks and i find it hard to eat iv suffered right from the beginning like you. I swear there cant b much else that i can suffer with as a result of pregnancy iv had piles, acid indegestion, hernias, thrush, i could go on forever lol.

my doctor prescribed me gaviscon (not that it helped a huge amount) but it helped ease it before i ate.

drinking milk seemed to be a very temporary relief like the gaviscon i dont have many words of wisdom but i feel your pain and you are not alone lol make sure you do mention it to your gp yours might be better than mine and actually sort the problem

good luck huni xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Gaviscon. Don't eat big meals and I found having a little cheese at the end of a meal helped.

thanks for the advice. sounds like dairy works as well as the gaviscon - so I might need to start eating more ice cream .

DH commented on how little I ate tonight, despite which I feel so full and bloated.

mum2b - sounds like you've had a challenging pregnancy to say the least - good luck with the last few weeks!

Honestly, Omeprazole is the only way to go. I was prescribed it by my doctor as indigestion was constantly making me ill in the first few months, (along with Gaviscon) and although I'm not so ill now, I still have horrible indigestion. I'm 25 weeks now, and I only take one every few days or so if its getting really bad, but they really work.

I'm feeling your pain though, its hideous when you have heartburn for the whole time!

thanx sweetie good luck with the next 33 weeks lol!! im sure ull be fine, pregnancy isnt all roses all the time but its 100% worth it at the end keep your chin up hun xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi ladies,

After suffering through one pregnancy with nothing more than Gaviscon, and then wanting to DIE for most of my 2nd, I finally found the answer. Omprazole REALLY will change your life. I find that I still have to take Zantac (Ranitidine) too. Also, the occasional Milk of Magnesia is a godsend for both reflux and constipation.

PS, I'm a pediatrician, and read extensively on the risks and benefits before taking the Omeprazole. You'll be fine, your baby will be better off for you not throwing up.

mum2b09 · 15/01/2009 22:01

my mum takes omoprazole for her acid reflux as she has some kind of hernia and so does my brother and its seemed to help them quite abit although shes still convinced its not an hernia lol didnt know you could have it during pregnancy if i had more than 8 weeks to go id probably try that myself im sure ill cope definately something you should ask about tho pecan xxxxxxxxxxxxx

thank you all so much. GP will probably roll his eyes at my self prescription via the internet (better or worse than self diagnosis?!)
